Hey everyone,
Easter is comming around, and I was thinking of changing the egg texture to have variations of different easter egg designs.
I have found several tutorials on how to add texture variations to certain blocks, but how do I do that with an item?
If anyone could please post or link an example of an actual JSON file for item variation and explain how to connect it to the different textures, that'd be awesome!

Hey Vexilius,
thanks for your reply.
Oh well, there went my easter egg idea. But still, that's some great info. I'm sure it'll come in handy soon enough.
Thank you.

You can read all about it on this page of the wiki:

you can only do it to items that have different item states.
for example, tools and weapons have durability values, fishing rods have cast/uncast models, a bow has different models depending on how far you have drawn it, etc.
It doesn't work with armor, however.
When it comes to eggs, you can only alter the mob egg and a chicken egg,
as those are the only two in the game. The mob egg colors are hardcoded,
so there's just one egg for all spawnable mobs.
