Would this be possible to do with texture packs?
So, if I wanted to make a texture pack where fire appears blue when on top of copper, even if it's kind of useless, would it be possible to do such a thing? Was thinking it might be possible with Optifine's connected textures/ctm feature, but I couldn't find a way for it to work.
Below is a mockup of what this sort of stuff might look like, along with other examples of how this could be used.

It seems like it ought to be possible given fences/walls/mushroom blocks etc. change appearance depending on what block is (or has been) next to a specific side…
EDIT: It occurred to me that the way noteblocks change instrument depending on the underlying block is probably the closest analogy. [Whether or not that helps ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ]
I'd like to know how to do thi smyself so will be following…
