if you haven't installed steam, you must have 1 game to use it, so just go to free to play, and tell it to get one of them. i don't believe you actually have to install it tho

Do you mean Skype or steam? Steam doesn't have anything to do with or to help with Minecraft.
I prefer steam because iv had lots of trouble with skype before like random disconnections in chat.
