WE ARE TALKING ABOUT CPUs HERE

Intel has better single core performance and Minecraft doesn't take advantage of multiple cores as well as other applications.

Intel.

I've said this already, you can't just compare Intel + AMD. They have many, many different CPU's. You need to tell us which CPU you have, and which one you will be looking at.

Also Minecraft doesn't run off of the CPU alone, in the last couple updates it's depending on GPU and CPU evenly, more or so GPU now.

So you can put the faster processor in the world with HD 4000 graphics, and you're still only gonna get around 30 frames on low.

Intel, its more expensive but better. I have a poor intel core and i run at least 30-60 fps in minecraft. You gotta buy a extreme AMD for better gaming if you wanna use AMD.
i think intel is the best.
Maybe my intel isnt a poor one, but my pc was $400

I Already use an AMD. It runs perfectly fine at around 100+ FPS but now I just want to give Intel a shot

So when most of the posters are suggesting Intel based on what information we have, you're choosing AMD? :S

For Minecraft I'd go with something like an Intel Pentium G3258 overclocked and a 750Ti or R9 270.

However, my friend's old dinosaur gaming PC has a Radeon 5450 and a Phenom II X4 and it still runs Minecraft at 60+ fps on max.

Because Minecraft relies more on the CPU than the GPU, Intel would generally be the better choice because their CPUs are just plain better than competing AMD ones. However, AMD CPUs are usually cheaper.

But, as others have said, your question is vague and we'd need to know what specific CPUs you're looking at.

Killertoad
Like, Athlon x2 4400+ vs an i7 - 4960x

Which do you think would win?

The Intel, by 10000 times.

But a Core 2 Duo E6300 vs FX 9590

Which would win?

the AMD, by 10000 times.

This is what we mean. We need CPUs to compare.

It depends on what you're doing, and nVidia isn't "better", because AMD has better frames in certain things, and nVidia cards do as well.

What are you looking at op? What other games are you doing as well?

To be honest, it really depends on what else you do besides minecraft. Intel is usually better for doing multiple things at once, and AMD gets really good bang for the buck. If you are going to build a mainly gaming PC on a budget, I would recommend AMD. If you are doing other stuff like photoshop or recording, Intel would do just great for you.

TL;DR, They are both equally good with Minecraft.

(My new PC will have an Intel i3 4130)

NVIDIA and AMD make equally powered GPUs

Intel is a better CPU but more expensive than AMD.
