Hello! I currently have a crappy Windows 7 32 bit 4 gig RAM laptop which runs minecraft at 20 FPs with optifine, no other mods. I also use faithful. I looked up how to get less lag, and it said the best way is too build a computer. They also provided a template! Please give me the right equipment based on my answers:

What is this computer going to be used for?
This computer is for gaming/recording, and editing/rendering.
What is your budget?
I really have no idea how much parts are, but I'd say my budget is $800-$1000 USD.
Where do you live? If in the US, do you have a nearby Microcenter?
I live in the US, and I have one up in Atlanta/Marietta
What is included in the budget?
Just the basic parts for gaming and editing/rendering. Mostly looking for 8gig RAM or if not alot, 16 gig RAM.
Will you be overclocking?
I have no idea what this means. Please tell me in the comments!
Will you be reusing any parts?
Nope. This laptop sucks.
What OS do you want?
Windows 7 please, if possible. Windows 8 has to much stuff already installed.
Any specific case preferences?
Don't really care how it looks, I don't even care if it looks super dirty AS LONG as the performance is top-notch.
Any other special features that you want in the build?
Make sure it's Windows 7 64 Bit Java 64. Also it needs to be a desktop, with a fan that's not really so noisy.

THANKS!

Errr, no, Windows 8/8.1 doesn't come with anything pre-installed that 7 doesn't come with. You may of gotten a pre-built that had a lot on it, but that's bloatware from OEM's. Windows 8.1 will be your best bet for gaming.

fiberlightJust want to say look into AMD CPU more bang for you buck.

Things good form this build from your requirements:
AMD 8 cores for gaming and for video editing.
AMD memory - allows 6gb of in ram disk(faster than any SSD) can be used for editing video or playing a game and so on.
http://www.radeonmemory.com/support_tutorials.php
You have 8.1 pro (should be able to upgrade to 10, getting 8.1 pro is the key)
1x 250GB SSD Hard drives about 800MB/s read and wright speed
1x 1TB of disk space that moves about 75MB/s
1x 6GB ram disk moving at 8700MB/s ($10 for 12GB)

So thing to watch out for when you are building a computer for your self.
1. Try to stay away from micro ATX mobo - limits you from adding add-ons most of the time. sound, network, PCI-e SSD other video cards.....
2. Spend more money on SSD and memory and Video card
3. No need to go crazy.( I try to build for 5 years) there isn't a game that would use all 8 cores that I know of.
4. Get a good power supply with more than one 12v rail of power. (I like 3+) this will provide a steady 12v to video card(s) and motherboard.

CPU: AMD FX-8370E 3.3GHz 8-Core Processor ($194.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($68.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($123.98 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Seagate Constellation ES.3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($95.34 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 270X 4GB DirectCU II Video Card ($189.99 @ Micro Center)
Case: Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($85.98 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer ($17.89 @ OutletPC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro (OEM) (64-bit) ($125.77 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1210.92

Some good ideas, like the RAMdisk. But bad part choices, I would go with an i7/280x, would be faster than this. And also, if you have 16GB's of ram, make 8GB's of it RAMdisk, as you can put more useful stuff on 8. And no reason to get 8.1 Pro? 8.1 standard is more than enough.

For the OS, I'd recommend something such as Linux Mint, Xubuntu, or if you want something you can control entirely (that Steam supports too!), Kubuntu. Just be sure to choose your version of choice (the latest Linux Mint is 17.1, Xubuntu and Kubuntu are both 14.10 at their latest. And since they all are based on Ubuntu (what Steam supports), you shouldn't have many problems. And, for recording/editing software, you can check with the software centers in each OS.

EDIT: The myth that you have to be a techno-geek to use Linux is a lie, unless you use Arch or Gentoo.

If this is your first build and you want your computer to be relatively quiet, don't bother overclocking. -Woody- recommended what seems like a pretty solid build, but if you want the best performance possible out of your computer I recommend getting an SSD for installing your operating system and programs on as opposed to using a conventional hard drive (you could still use a large hard disk drive for storing your recordings and personal files). I've had one for about 6 months now and I'll never go back. They're silent, cooler, draw less power, and have faster speeds than you could ever get with a hard disk drive. Good luck!

Overclocking means to essentially tweak one of your components to go faster.

This is quite easy to do and costs nothing but this will make your components run hotter and sometimes void your warranty.

If not done properly, it can also fry some parts.

I didn't throw a GPU in there because in my opinion you should wait for the AMD Radeon R9 3XX series which come out around February. You can still use Intel's iGPU for 2 months or so, if that's OK with you. I replaced the CPU that Woody threw in there with it's overclockable counterpart because it's cheaper. That DOESN'T mean that you can overclock though, because you have a locked motherboard.
I used some of the money left to upgrade to a better case and a bigger PSU with higher efficiency.

As long as you have good cooling, you should be fine.

First of all, Windows 7 loses support in like 3 weeks, so if something goes wrong with it, you won't be able to get any help. Windows 8.1 is very similar to Windows 7, and is much better.

Anyway, luckily I had this build saved from a few minutes ago. It's only $900-ish, so it's the middle of your budget range.
It will max out every game you throw at it in 1080p on Ultra Settings.

With the $100 left, you can get either a better case, a monitor, a mechanical keyboard, or some headphones. (Or you can put it on steam).

Tbh, I do that a lot while I am in school. I am interested in CIT and etc. I am sure a lot of other people do the same thing. It is interesting to see what you can put together. It is also useful for those who need it.

The only thing Windows 7 will get is security fixes. I will be upgrading all of my PCs when Windows 10 comes out. So yea, get windows 8, there is a slight chance it may be a free upgrade to 10, but I guess we will find out next month, or is it february when they will hold the conference about the future of windows 10, cant remember.
