Do not buy alienware. On this price range you can get a way better PC if you build it yourself.

some people aren't willing to build their own, which is why for some people it's a good choice.

It's always a good choice to never buy Alienware period. There are much better companies that offer much better pre builts.

2. Other heavy background programs (Vegas rendering, Photoshop, etc)

Rest of your stuff is fine, I just want to say that unless PS is rendering a 3D object for the first time, or you are actually Saving a file, it won't take up much memory. As a (albiet junky) graphic artist I've had PS open with 15+ files, and not dropped a single FPS. I will admit that if you are Saving or Rendering, you will definitely see a huge spike. Largest file I've saved in PS was 16g and that was horrible. But normal editing, <1g, you should save and then be gaming perfectly fine in under 30 seconds.(depends HDD write speed)

First of all ; I do not mean to offend anyone.

(I agree with the person, he does speak the truth in those last sentences)

But there are different kinds of people out there you know, not everyone is a computer-enthusiast. Some people just don't have the interest in those kinds of things. (I myself do, but that is a different story) And why would you do something like that if you don't bother to care about it ? Well, then there are some options:

1. Buy a prebuilt (Origin, Alienware, Cyberpower, Asus, etc..)
2. Or buy a office PC and get it upgraded (Useless and pricey when gaming)

You know, there is a reason Alienware still exists. Apparently it does some decent business, because otherwise it wouldn't be where it is now. (Not an economist, but that is my opinion)

And last of all, people are generally stubborn ; meaning that if they already have an idea/opinion they're not going to change it very likely (Especially if you bring it harsh)

So don't tell people what you WANT them to do, but tell them what they CAN do.
If it is within their personal opinion, then they are most likely to do it.

As for the PC problem, most likely it is one of the following issues:

1. Really bad graphics card
2. Other heavy background programs (Vegas rendering, Photoshop, etc)
3. Really extreme mods (And then I mean allot, something like 300 mods)
4. V sync (Limits your FPS, and can cause screen-tearing I think)
5. Heat problems ? (Those cases don't really look like they have amazing airflow )

So have a nice day all, hope this helps somehow
(If there is something wrong, just tell ; I can take it, I'm a man )

I thought this topic was dead, but guys. NEVER buy an Alienware. Never buy a prebuilt either. There is no reason to not build your own computer: It's not hard, we'll help you with the part selection, individual parts have their own warranties, and everything about it is better than just getting a PC that won't do the best it can for the price.

I've got an Alienware X51 desktop.
Never had any issues with crashes, I hold steady at about (theo) 280 fps with several mods installed for Minecraft. Can play Skyrim and higher end graphics type games on ultra settings with no noticeable decrease.

Most people argue about it because of the price. It's a good computer, especially if you aren't willing to build one yourself and you have that sort of money.

SeghasThis is the Alienware Killer PC. It's pretty much as high-end as you'll ever need for 1080p playing games of today. If you're getting an x51, prepare for overspending. For $1600, there's this custom PC (might as well choose a different case, the one that's there now resembles Alienware if you like their designs. It will also allow for overclocking if it ever gets outdated, and is cheaper than any Alienware of equal performance. It also has WIn7, while Alienwares are sporting the newest in frustrating operating systems, Windows 8.

I would steer away from Windows 7 for new computers, because support for it is dropping in less than a year.

Replace italics with your answers.
What is this computer going to be used for?
List what you will be doing with your computer.
What is your budget?
Include amount and currency.
Where do you live? If in the US, do you have a nearby Microcenter?
Your country lets us know what sites you can order from. If you have a nearby Microcenter they have some great in-store only deals that you can take advantage of.
What is included in the budget?
Things like the tower, the OS, peripherals and monitors.
Will you be overclocking?
Overclocking will require different hardware than a non-overclocking build so we need to know this.
Will you be reusing any parts?
If you are reusing parts list them here.
What OS do you want?
Say which OS you want or say if you already have a copy of one.
Any specific case preferences?
Size, color, etc.
Any other special features that you want in the build?
Stuff like an SSD, large hard drive, RAID, and wifi

Why get 300+ when you can't see it?

Why pay more for less?

And while you may not be able to see anything over 144 (144hz monitor)... You can record at higher framerate, and then do slow-motion (if you wanted to do that)

Yeah, also 60 fps does that screen shredding stuff or whatever, where it's like as if you can see the monitor refreshing in chunks..

If you have a good pc, you are bound to play other games than minecraft...

This is true, that 300 FPS on minecraft, would be around 70-80 FPS on BF4, on ultra. Now while you'll say more than 60 is useless again, that extra 20 FPS give you some room for recording at 60 and room for big explosions, and other big things

Personally, I think that Alienwares are overrated, and can't really run the 'new' games. I find that a lot of people just buy them because of the brand - and don't take into consideration all of the other places you can get a better, smoother PC or Laptop, even if it means custom building one.

Cough Cough, most monitors don't support above 60 FPS while the others usually only support up to 120. Being that most monitors are 60 hz (60 refreshes per second).

Yeah, we aren't talking about the frame rate. We are talking about the price...Why spend ~1100 on a alienware, that'll only play Minecraft at 60 FPS? When you could spend ~1100 on a custom PC and get 300+ FPS on minecraft.[/quote]

Depends which model of the x51, the cheapest one wouldn't run many games at all. The other two versions are pure crap. Heck, cyberpowerpc has better specs and cheaper, than alienwares crap.

It'd be cheaper, and way better to build your own computer. a ~1100 custom built computer (while rendering a 1080p video) would run circles around Alienwares 1100 computer.
