Random question. But i am just curious. Also the country you were born at doesn't count so don't even try.

I’m from NYC, and I’ve been to Panama (early 2010s), Puerto Rico (March 2022), and England (London and Salisbury last July, although I just rode the bus through Salisbury to get to the plains to see Stonehenge)
Me and my dad are planning to head to Costa Rico in July as well

Gotta agree; anyplace you don't leave the airport isn't something I would count…
On the other hand, I would count countries that aren't there anymore (e.g. West Germany, Czechoslovakia, and the USSR as well as Germany [reunified], Slovakia & the Czech Republic, and the various successor states (including the CIS)) but not simple name changes (Burma to Myanmar) and unclear about changes where the land stayed the same but the government seriously altered (Ceylon to Sri Lanka)

I think it would depend on the date the person would've gone to the country. Most people who commented here, did so in a modern & legal context for those countries.
Like if you visited Sri Lanka pre name change, both names would be correct. If the commenter is rational, they should add a clarification of when they went or just skip to the modern country name and maybe state a fusion of multiple countries. (This can also be extended to East/West Germany, Czech and Burma)
For the USSR, the country had their own national-based substates/subcountries/republics, which had their own autonomies (on paper ofc). So back in the cold war, I bet people trying to visit republics like Poland, Armenia, Estonia etc, actually said those states and not simply "the USSR"

Given that all that was asked for was a count, my discussion involves whether visits to West Germany, East Germany (pre-'89) and Germany (post-'91) ought be counted as one or three (with the oddball justification for two passed over) and similar circumstances.
While the likelihood these issues influence an individuals count is possitively correlated with age (and many respondents are quite young), some of us are old enough that these are meaningful questions if teh answer is to be closer than 'a bunch'.
