Hello everyone. I'm looking into getting a new monitor. I need suggestions.
Here are my requirements:
-At least 1920x1080 resolution
-HDMI and/or DVI interface (and an additional VGA would be good too)
-27 diagonal screen size (no more, no less)
-Needs to be thin (depth)
-Tiny pixel pitch/pixel density. I like my detail, thank you.
-LED backlight
-Good static/dynamic contrast ratio
So, does anyone know of a good monitor that would tickle my fancy? Thanks.
And if I can get it from TigerDirect, that's good too.
But if not, I don't really care.

Does anyone have any experience with the ASUS VG Series VG278H? Is it worth the price?

I really love this monitor, it's got a great picture and the same as Mac monitors
Hmm... It looks pretty neat. It's got everything, like 50million:1 dynamic contrast and 1080p. But I think I'm gonna need HDMI and it's pretty tiny. But man! That thing is friggin flat!

Buy a smallish tv and plug you Pc into it?z

Lol. HDTV's don't deliver the pixel response, refresh rate, pixel pitch, or color accuracy that a monitor does.

Is the ASUS VG Series VG278H a rip-off, anyone? It seems to be worth 6 Benjamins, but I always like opinions.

Here are my requirements:
-At least 1920x1080 resolution
-HDMI interface (and an additional VGA and DVI would be good too)

-Needs to be thin (depth)
-Tiny pixel pitch/pixel density. I like my detail, thank you.

Well..my monitor fits into most of these qualities, though I'm not sure about HDMI...it probably does have it. My monitor is an Acer H274HL. It has a 27 inch diagonal screen size, a 1920x1080 resolution, and (in my opinion) it does very well with most, if not all graphics.

Hey, if you find one can you Pm me, these sound like good specs if they can be found
1
Lol, sure. It is hard finding a good one that meets those needs.

Anyone have an opinion about the Acer S271HL?

Funny. The new issue of Maximum PC that came in the mail recently reviewed it. They liked it!

Anyone know of any good 120hz monitors?
1
You do realise it is physically impossible to distinguish between a 50Hz display and a 120Hz?
1
Really? I heard somewhere that if you had a 120Hz one you would notice its a lot smoother and less laggy
1
The flicker fusion frequency of human vision is 50Hz, it is impossible to distinguish moving images faster than 50 times per second. A flickering light source at 60Hz will appear to be a constant light because we cannot refresh our eyes as quick as the light source changes. This is why mains electricity is at 50/60Hz and we cannot see fluorescent tubes as flickering.
1
I must have pretty good eyes then, because when I lower the res on my current 60hz monitor and put it up to 75hz, I see a clear difference. By that I mean that I see little to no ghosting, and when I move my curser quickly, I only see one of it, not a whole trail of cursers following it like ducklings following a mother duck (Analogies FTW).
Also, with a high refresh rate, it also would allow for better stereoscopic 3D because of all the new frames that would have to be displayed in a second.

I am not a fan of the restrictions that Apple quite often puts on its software and operating systems. Windows is much more universally compatible with things and developers more often program things to work with Windows. For desktop products, I try to stay away from Apple and Macintosh. Of course, Mac is great for those who don't require/desire the power and learning curve of Windows, Linux, etc. I just personally don't like Apple.
Back to the monitor subject, would an Acer monitor like that suffice for 1080p gaming and visuals, eye-candy, etc.? Should I look elsewhere and try to find a 120hz display?

Bump. Right now, I'm liking the looks of the Acer S231HL 23". Anyone got an opinion on that?
1
Well, I don't own that mointor and haven't actually ever seen or used it, but from my experience with Acer products, they are great for the price. They won't be amazing, but it gets the job done well, and doesn't burn a hole in your wallet. I owned an Acer laptop for a while, but I just love Macs to death and had to get one.

I have a Bush 28" HDTV setup at 1920x1080 (it's not lost any quality) running through HDMi and a Compaq 1520 setup at 1024x768 running through VGA both coming off my nVidia GeForce 9500GT.
I would plug my 32" LG into that as well at 1920x1080 but it's broke >,<

I have a Dynex 15.1" HD TV that doubles as a monitor

Buy an hp they have those at tiger direct and they're really nice

Sorry about bumping again, but I really want as many opinions as possible.

Because of that, I'm probably going to stick with 23". I cherish every pixel of detail.

Let me ask everyone this: how does 1920x1080 look on a 27" monitor? Do you lose detail because of it being so big?
1
On a monitor that big, I think so. I don't know what the optimized size for 1920x1080 is, but I'd say around 22" or so.
When I had both my 23" monitors set up with eyefinity (Setting multiple monitors to act as one) I had a res. of over 3000x1080. Now that I think about it, that is 46 inches wide. xD

Hey! I was looking at that same one earlier. It looks pretty cool and it meets my requirements. I might get that one.

LG is nice, but if you can find something by Samsung, their colors are richer and blacks are deeper.

Mmmm... Sounds good.

Oooh! Now that catches my attention.
Do you use it for gaming? How are the blacks and the whites? How about the detail?
Yus. Extensive use.
Honestly, I'm not sure, I don't notice those details or pay attention to them, but 'tis a good monitor, I think. it was my first HD monitor(s)

I recommend Acer, their moniters aren't too bad, but they aren't super mega awesome like you want it to be.
1
...Do an amazon.com search.

Hmmmm... I'm not a monitor expert, but I use Acer. It works well for me

...Why are you looking for good monitors on a Minecraft site?
Just do a Google search.
