You can create amazingly intricate and cleverly offensive speeches with swear words. When used right, and fluently, swear words are a gift, and can create something beautiful.
Although, I do stress "When used right". Going around, swearing at inappropriate times in inappropriate measure is just ugly. If you do swear, do so according to the situation. And keep expanding your swear vocabulary. Be creative with them.

I think it can be amusing when used at times, but is not necessary and if over used or used all the time, I think it makes people sounds a little moronic.

I've heard this said before; that swearing bears relation to having a limited vocabulary. I find that highly unlikely. My vocabulary is better than most and I also swear more than the majority (I suspect.) Beyond anecdotes, I have very little to prove my argument but then neither has anyone who says that swearing is a limited vocab thing. There's little more satisfying than swearing when a metaphorical itch needs scratching.
Oh sh*t! So I forgot to give my answer to the question. Lols.
Imo like most things which people differ on it has everything to do with family; if you've come to learn that swearing means getting punished or berated then you won't do it too much, and will eventually end up telling others off for it as you simply internalise your parents' wishes.
I saw my parents swearing and it was never really treated as a bad thing. Just strong words, that is all. I have a feeling that maybe my parents actually found it quite endearing that I swore at such a tender age.

No. I swear a lot but i have a wide range of vocab. It has been proven that swearing calms a person down when under a lot off stress. Another experiment i remember is 2 groups of people put their hands in ice cold buckets, and one group was alloued to swear and the other wasn't. The one that was swearing could keep their hand in for twice as long as the other group.
