I am not asking for help but helping all of you. If are below the age of 16 I STRONGLY advice you do not make a server and hope for a lot of players. Because this is unfortunate but true, you're server has a .0000001 chance of even being able to pay itself off if you purchase a higher plan server. Think about it, there are so many servers out it's unbelievable. Pretty much every game type ever has been made multiple times. Factions - Why should they choose your little faction server over a popular faction server that has funds and for sure won't shut down? When I was little I spent hundreds of dollars on a network of servers and everything was custom everything was new, guess how many players join... about 200 total, but that may seem good but that's total, that's all the players that ever joined. You know what the player base count was? 0. there was almost never any players on at all. I lost hundreds making that. But now i'm older and kind of remade that, and it's more advanced, it looks and functions better and i'm doing good, just opened it like 2 weeks ago, but doing good. So if you want to open a server, don't do it. Not unless you're old enough. Because it can cost up to 7 thousand dollars for a really good ad campaign. Also, if you advertise on servers all that tells about your server is that it's doing bad, is desperate and cheap and it gives the server a terrible reputation.

Look here, I know I make a hobby out of getting on servers like the one you just described and making fun of them, but my intentions are good. The fact of the matter is, you can throw hundreds of dollars at a generic piece of garbage, and it's still going to be a generic piece of garbage when you're done. That's what I try to point out. 90% of servers have factions, 90% of servers have starting kits, 90% of servers have a clueless bunch of people for a "staff", and 90% of servers have a thousand and one safety nets so people never have to experience that old fashioned hazard of losing their items.
Let's say you make a network. It has everything! Skywars, skyblock, survival games, factions, capture the flag, plot survival, creative, and more! You're gonna call it Mine Barf, and advertise it everywhere! Congratulations, great server, but I can go to mc-central.net and get the same experience with a much larger playerbase, better uptime, and a guarantee that it isn't just going to vanish in 1-3 months when you get bored of it or tired of throwing money at an empty server. What pulls players to your server when they could go to one of the many others that already have players and a stable setup?
Give them a reason to come to you. Give them an experience that only your server can offer, so they have to come back to you to get that experience again. Don't tell me that's a difficult task either. I've been doing it since survival multiplayer began, and I will continue to do it until Minecraft dies. Be original. Get creative (and no, not the gamemode). Come up with something new. Don't just carbon copy what everyone else out there has, and is most likely doing better than you because they've been doing it a lot longer.
What the guy above me said about starting small is very important. What looks better? 9/15, or 9/2000. Which server looks more abandoned? When you start getting 10-15 players, then its time for an upgrade. Move up to 25-30, then 50-60. Keep going and eventually you might just get big. The reason these servers keep dying is because everyone expects to become a huge server over night and then get disappointed to the point of giving up when they don't. Think realistically, that isn't going to happen. That would be like if the Ouya game console expected to be as big as the Playstation in a month. Can you see that happening? That's because it doesn't happen aside from some insanely rare exceptions. Don't wait for lady luck to smile on you, plan as if she won't.

First off, since when is the point of servers to get money or players? Some people make servers just for the fun of it. Also, you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a network. In fact, that is probably the reason your server failed in the first place. A small survival server with 5 players on at a time feels like a thriving community. Whereas a big network with 5 people on feels empty. Plus, any minigames you may have, probably require more than 1 person. When a player finds nothing to do, they leave. Simple as that!
The trick is to build up a player base, you won't just start with one. I know many servers which started out as small faction servers hosted on their mom's Lenovo ThinkCenter and as their player base grew, they expanded and added more servers, bought a dedi from OVH and are still up today with hundreds of players daily. And they don't pay thousands of dollars to advertise. The have a website and a simple PMC page. Those things are <$100. And the other hilarious thing about that is they use almost no custom plugins. Maybe a few Skripts here, a CommandHelper file there but other than that, it's made from free plugins!
Finally, what the hell does age have to do with any of this?! You say that you have to be 16 to own a server. Hell I've been running and administrating servers since I was twelve. Never have I had a problem with any of this!
Now please, stop bitching about how nobody plays on your "absolutely perfect" server and maybe focus on players instead of playercounts.
TL;DR Start small, don't pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket for advertising or anything
