There is literally no way to play with someone from another country without a server. Although on bedrock edition if you have them friended you can play with them that way.

You can't unless you use a service similar to servers called Realms. There has to be a way for your computers to communicate with each other if you're not on the same network and servers are the only way to do so. You can either pay a server hosting company such as Nodecraft or MCProHosting to host a server for you or you can host a server for free on your own PC, but the latter requires some technical know-how and a decently fast PC.

The only 2 ways to play multiplayer are through a server and through LAN, which only works if you are on the same wifi or set up Hamachi. If you don't want to find a server, you need to host one. If you are not able to configure the router to port-forward (basically this means you are able to let anyone else connect to your computer from over the internet directly) or do not want to for security reasons you need to use Hamachi.

LogMeIn Hamachi is a VPN (Virtual Private Network) program that allows you to create a connection that acts like a router but you can connect to from anywhere with an internet connection. This lets you host a world on the LAN and anyone else given access to your Hamachi network can connect to it. If you are playing with less than 5 players, the program is free.
