How to Give A Server More RAM?
So to celebrate the lauch of 1.11, I want to create an 1.11 SMP for my YT channrl. When I did SMP's below, it had max 3 people, which the default server settings were fine handling, However for the new one, we are planning to have at least 10 people, so we want to give the new server we are setting up more RAM than the defualt. How do I do that?

What you want to do is create a notepad file in your server folder. Open it up and put injava -Xms1024M -Xmx2048M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui
pause
Then go to File>Save As and save it as run.bat , without the .txt extension
Replace minecraft_server.jar with whatever your server jar file is called. If you want the gui (does the same thing) then remove "nogui", and -Xmx2048M is the max amount of RAM allocated. 2048M is 2048mb. 1024mb in a gb, so it's 2gb of RAM. If you wanted 4gb of ram, you'd set it to -Xmx4096M .
Like I said a few times before I already done it.
My bad, sorry

Your running the original Minecraft server? just get bukkit/spigeot! and change the launch.bat to xms{gigs} xms {gigs}

The server is vanilla anyway. It's been fixed now. I gave our public server 16GB.
1
It's not a problem anymore though. We gave it the 16GB of RAM we had for it and it works fine now.
1
could always make a new forum post and ask for help on "decrypting" for lack of a better word-- the crashlog, sometimes its easy, other times not so much
1
I know where it is, just not how to find the error from it.
1
to find a crashlog, u just need to look inside the folder thay says crashlogs
1
It is a private host for Avrona Studios(complicated story).
1
I don't know how to identify the fault from a crashlog.
And I can do both A and B.
And I can do both A and B.
1
Our main, public server kept on crashing with 1GB and only 3 people.
1
if it keeps crashing with 3 people on and 1gb, there must be something really REALLY wrong with the server itself, ive done some testing, not the heaviest but ive managed to fit 5 people, about 20 plugins and heavy world gen on a 750mb server and it didn't crash, sure it slowed down quite a bit but no crash. also check the crashlog and see what that says cos it could be something not related to max amount of ram
~~
also from what ive seen, you either have to
A: be an admin of the control panel and not the server
B: have access to panel files to change the settings
if theres a 3rd way im not to sure other than not using a panel and using a startup script, and then a 2 sec search will help out with that, or you could just search
{how to increase ram on X panel}

for 1, it depends on what panel you have
and secondly, if youve assigned more ram to the server already - depending on what you mean by server -, it should automatically use it, and how much ram do u need for a server that doesnt have plugins and only has a max of 10 people on, woulda thought that 1gb would be enough since last i checked that was default

It's not a plugin server at all,
1
this is typical avrona, you give him an answer to your problem and he doesnt understand, if you want to increase the amount of ram your server has, you either need to
A order more from host or
B start the server with more through the command-line/panel for the server
and when did i say anything about plugin?

It's called a vanilla home host (I believe it is home host), making your suggestions largely irrelevant to the server type. Though that wasn't really explained in the first place.
1
We already have a lot of RAM for the server but not assigned to it yet. And I know it's done with the panel, but what do you type in?
Also it's nitwick that said about plugins on the previous page.

I am running one just fine TYVM. Probably do know what it is, just don't know the terminology or it may be different for plugin server or whatever. And I know you can do things in it, but not how to add more RAM.
1
the thing stats used to start up the server? if you seriously dont know how to start a server, why you trying to run 1?
1
Perhaps it isn't a traditional plugin-based server?
1
What's the startup command?
1
im sure since your a server owner, you would know that editing the startup command would do,... things
1
It is. Both my normal server and the SMP's are vanilla. In fact I never even used plugins/mods before XD
1
Wait oh yeah its vanilla my bad.
1
what's the .bat?
1
Just basically change then .bat code and put as much ram as you want in it.
1
Home hosted, well kinda. We have a private host we own.
1
Is Your SMP server home hosted or on a hosted on a hosting site?
