What is your help?

Think you need to use optifine. there's a color.properties you'll need to edit. Vanilla is hard color coded and cannot be changed.

The problem in question is not to customize the hardcoded colors, but to make them show up in the first place.

You just edit the color file in optifine and it works. You don't have to do anything extra except put it in the right location.

This specific case was about potions custom model, which is part of vanilla modification possiblities, no optifine required.
The problem was, that the potions fluid textures stayed grayscale because of wrong name for texture association and game couldn't recognise it as "tintable part".

Considering there wasn't a thing about vanilla in the post problem, you can see my confusion. Most users just go to optifine since it's easier. Should have been clued in when they said 3d models I suppose. Good fix.

Well, once I first replied to you I started to think more about the sentence in the thread and came to conclusion it could be understanded differently. So yeah, I don't blame you.

Default models uses "layer0" name for overlay texture assotiation. Maybe try that, if not - try adding tintindex:0 parameters to the overlay elements

can u uh explain a little more?

When you open your potion model in text editing program you will see section named "textures"
Change whatever you named texture for overlay on the left into layer0 (keep in mind you will also have to update the names in faces sections of overlay elements)
Let's try with that first. Let me know if it works
