Hey guys I made a server for a couple of friends and me but I need some plugin help. I installed permissions ranks and essentials. I don't know how to give my friend a rank using permission rank or how to set myself owner. Can someone please help me. A step by step guide would be nice.

While I recommend bPermissions, for pex you have to configure the permissions.yml to give permissions to certain groups. As for settings yourself with all perms, run this command in the console:
pex user <username> add *Ok thanks everyone ill keep posting problems i run into.

Well, different people prefer different permissions plugins, but I should personally recommend using PermissionsEx, since it supports almost all plugins and are pretty straight forward to use. And I haven't myself got any problems with it yet.

states that this plugin doesnt have any commands it just changes already predefined commands into the format of the plugin. the page is very unclear on what it does exactly but from the looks of it all it does is adds ranks it even states its a " plugin that converts pre-defined player permissions into player ranks" whats the even mean? its not a permissions plugin it seems like its a permissions pluginhelper atleast from what i see. you need to go get and actual permission plugin . the most popular are PEX Bpermissions and essentials group manager. then get rid of whatever this thing is

From what I'm reading it appears to support a function similar to GroupManager's global groups, in that it creates a parent permission node to assign multiple perm nodes at once, rather than a full group of them. This is of course a defeating process in optimization as it will just take up more memory running the plugin for very little benefit.
I prefer Pex over GM, but since Pex doesn't work with bukkitforge I am forced to use GM.
ppl actually like groupmanager? It annoys me that it has dozens of commands, whereas pex has just 1 /pex
for instance if you had a group called "Owner". To put yourself in that group, you would need 2 do.

As you use essentials anyway i would recommend you to Install Groupmanager aswell!
Just set up the Permissions in the Groupmanager config! Then do /manpromote [Groupname] [Playername] to promote them to a group!
To set yourself as a Owner put your name in the Ops.txt on the server ftp!
