I was playing some of the older versions of Minecraft to see what they were like, and I saw that the skins were not working for these versions (1.5.2., 1.0, b1.7.3, etc.). I was wondering, how do I have a skin work with these versions?

In older versions client no longer communicates with skins server resulting in having default Minecraft skin.
You can modify Steve's texture via texture pack.
