Hey there, AeePlus3.

Assuming that you're going to go to a hosting company for your server, be sure to analyze very carefully the pros and cons of each. There are a few really nice companies that provide high quality servers for $1.50/GB. That being said, anything over $6/GB is a bit much, unless it comes with some amazing perks along with your server.
Along the lines of hosting, be sure you have budgeted correctly, because if you do not think you'll have enough to last a year, you're not going to end up getting anywhere, and then your money will have been wasted. A good start for hosting would be around 4GB of RAM, if you're going to have a standard three worlds, a few plugins, and other things.
Once you have your server set, begin brainstorming exactly what your server to be like. What will players be able to do? How many players are you looking for? And things like that. Have a detailed plan that outlines precisely what you are going to make happen with your server. When brainstorming, actually brainstorm. If you sit there and are thinking, "Well. Let me make a faction server cause it's easy and fast!" That is the wrong way to go. Try to come up with unique ideas instead of remaking something that is already very common.
Once you have your plan set up, try to involve a small group of people who want to help make your idea become reality. Be careful not to bring your friends from real life into it, because that can become a huge problem if any abuse takes place or you end up arguing.

That should be a pretty good start for you there. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a private message.

Happy crafting,
Blue

LOL! The other tips were accurate but this one is a bit ridiculous. Who the hell does that? I mean if you're using widely used plugins you dont need that at all.... try checking out mcmmo or factions code... its thousands of lines of code and this guy is just a beginner how is he going to analyze complex code with no java coding experience...

In all honesty the only dangerous plugins are the ones some trolls will try to send you by saying "Hi, ill help you, ill send you a plugin that fixes your server" Never install any plugins sent over skype or similiar... Download all your plugins from spigot or bukkit and you should be fine like millions of other server owners.

Make sure you master what ever permissions plugin you chose, thats extremely important.
Do not op anyone you dont trust 100%.
Do as much research as you can to learn how to keep your server optimized and running healthy.

Good luck

Make sure you know what server type your going to make
Make sure you have enough funds to run it for quite some time
Finish your server before releasing it to the public (Safes you from bug reports )
