Modern Android phones have good specifications, quad core processors 1-3 gigs of ram, just as good as a normal computer (not gaming) its iPhone that has fell behind, if mojang were to only progress the android version they would receive a lot of hate, and hate is not good for any company.

A lot of people are saying that it won't be as good as PC because of the devices we're using...

Give it time and it will become equal. Given the rapid growth of mobile hardware I'd say that in five years any smartphone out there should be able to run the equivalent of MCPC.
I do wish that they would make a "advanced" edition, because my phone could totally run that with its monster-like speed

You guys do realize that mobile devices are inching closer and closer to specs capable of running Minecraft PC fairly well?
I have a 2008 Acer Aspire One with a dual-core 1.6 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM (64 MB VRAM), which runs Minecraft at 10+ FPS on single player (meh).
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a quad-core 1.9 GHz processor, and 2 GB RAM (which I assume is split between the CPU and GPU).
...and that performance on the Acer was before all the optimizations that 1.6 brought.
By the way, MC: PE runs on Java as well.

To you people saying that phones aren't as powerful as PC:
The PC Minecraft is AWFULLY made. It was coded in Java, making it terribly optimized.
Xbox Minecraft is coded in a variation of C. C would be better for computers as well, it would make even the worst computer able to play minecraft.
Anyway, that's why an Xbox 360 can run minecraft better than some computers. Minecraft was optimized for the Xbox. The same can happen for phones.

No, not enough storage space on phones, it will be close, but there will most likely never be a real end or nether because of hardware limitations.
1
Storage space? I have like 10 worlds on my iPad and it takes up maybe 100MB. Even on a 8GB Nexus 7 there's plenty of room.
End/Nether is debatable, my phone would probably run it but I'd be on the safe side and wait a while since many phones that run PE only have 512MB of RAM.

Minecraft on the PC can run considerably well on 256 MB of RAM, and I tested this before 1.6, so it probably runs much better now.
Most phones people are using probably have between 512 MB and 1 GB of RAM, which is probably shared between the CPU and GPU. Heck, the iPhone 5 and its sub-par specs in today's market could run the PC version as it is right now.
iPhone 5: 1 GB RAM, dual-core 1.3 GHz processor
Smasung Galaxy S4: 2 GB RAM, quad-core 1.9 GHz processor
2008 Acer Aspire One netbook: 1 GB RAM, dual-core 1.6 GHz processor, 64 MB dedicated video RAM + whatever it takes from the normal RAM
^ 2008 Acer netbooks are more powerful that an iPhone :O
On storage space: my entire .minecraft folder, with 35 worlds, lots of mods, about 8 resource packs and 5 texture packs, takes up a whopping 1.56 GB. As far as I can remember, even the first iPhone started at 8 GB of storage.

Yes i think it will; the latest update really added a lot and made it much closer to the PC version.
1
Pocket edition will never be as good as PC.
1
No, Phone and ipods and stuff have no way of handling the massive files of PC minecraft. They simply don't have enough power for high build heights, infinite worlds, and complicated textures.
1
I think that it will catch up to the current PC version eventually, but that it will always be behind the most recent version.
1
No it will never be due to the more choices on PC.
1
I don't think that Mcpe will ever be as good as the pc because Pc has different Roles to it, I mean that On a Pc/Mac you can make your own server around the world while as on Mcpe you can't you can only make a LAN Server Which isn't As Fun.... I think Mcpe will Never Be as Good As Pc/Mac.
1
I don't think Minecraft Pocket Edition will ever become as good as Minecraft on the PC, since you can do so much more on the PC.
But, it will be good for using on-the-go
But, it will be good for using on-the-go
1
It will never be as good. We have java and plugins, they don't. iOS and Android can't handle as much as a computer can.
1
I don't think so. Because MCPE doesn't update nearly as much as PC. But for me the PC lags like crazy, and my iPad doesn't even when I turn on smooth lighting or anything. But I don't think MCPE will ever catch up to the PC version at this rate. Unless Mojang gives it a lot of love.
1
There would be sprint in minecraft if they implemented it. the controls would be easy. just double tap the up thing on the d-pad. and in my opinion minecraft is good no matter what version. and the downside? finite worlds. should be like PC. only show chunks when the player is near to lessen memory.
1
NO
1
No, controls and memory is a problem
1
To me, the MCPE and the PC edition, are completely different. MCPE is for math class/if you're in the car and the PC edition is for your house.
1
Possibly. At this time, there is a low chance. People are starting to use mobile devices more, so there is a chance it will get at least half as possible.
1
lets see here, xbox is 1 year in,and still has no upside down stairs, only allows up to 8 people, and you can only use the mojang texture,so im gonna say no.
1
Did you hear about the next update? In the next Xbox Update they are adding: (I'm just skimming this)
Withers
The 255 Build Height
Jungle Trees/Temples
Texture Pack Support
Iron Golem
Cats
Redstone Lamp
The Above Mentioned Upside Down Stairs
Beacons
Coco Pods

You do realize that Minecraft Xbox 360 edition is being run by 4J studios, right?
So it does not update in tandem with the PC version.

1
give me your nether reactor MCPE
1
I hope that minecraft PE became just like PC (But with no bugs)
1
If you have the right phone, the controls are fine, smooth even, but it can't handle what PC has. I think they should make it different than PC and XBpx, because who wants the same thing? Without being able to copy worlds from one to the other, it would be useless to have all of the same stuff.
1
Many of the devices cannot support the content that the computer version has. And if Mojang takes as long as they have, it will take a good amount of years for it to get up to par with how Minecraft was in the first actual release.
1
There is a new Ubuntu phone that can run the linux jar of minecraft.
1
It seems like when they update it, it is getting some lag. The good thing about PE was that it doesn't lag. But in future updates, the lag will most likely increase, therefore ruining the whole experience of Minecraft PE. They should just update slowly, and in future technologies, update it.
1
this answer is the best because it is the simplest. --> No.
1
Not thinking it will, because, its hard to move, and plus, almost every time PE updates, PC updates, so PE will never catch up, plus, if they made it like PC, it would take all of your Phone's GB (GigaBytes)
1
I can't even figure out how to use the furnace correctly in PE.
1
The furnace bug was just fixed with the 0.7.1 update.
1
It has limitations, so probably not
1
No way, no how.
1
um i think that if it were it take to much space and it Discharge the battery
faster
faster
1
Sadly no because of its limitations.
1
i actually learnt how to play Mc with pocket edition with my couisin and i think ti is a perfect starting point!

In my opinion, No
The PE version being based on mobile devices capabilities in my opinion will prevent it reaching the glory of the PC version!

Definatly. It will be different though. different features.
1
It will...
But not for a very, very, very, very, very
90 "very"s later
very, very, very, very, VERY long time

NOPE

no, not yet when it goes in beta or the official release it will probably be way better but for now as said, no it wont.
1
I don't think PE will ever be as good as the PC version, with this generation type of mobile devices.
The devices that we have right now, can't stand the PC version. It needs more power. And after that, if it has the power enough, it would be laggy. And the battery power needs to increase, alot. I really don't think that mobile devices would be the same level as PC's, ever.

1
Maybe not. I mean, with PC you can easily play with other people but on PE you have to be seriously near a person to play with them. Plus there isn't as much things to do, and you don't get all the mobs that are on the PC version.
1
No, the pocket edition may be able to be better on some devices than others. For example: apple has less advanced capabilities so Android will have more to do with it.
