Appropriate age for server staff

On my server, I have kids that are 9 year old kids asking for a staff position, of course they're not getting any type of position. But really how old should staff be? 14+? 18+? I think they should be AT LEAST 16, that is if you want a mature and successful server.

Maturity definitely is different from age, I totally agree. But it's not like younger kids don't act like kids and adults don't act like adults. Age and maturity are most definitely linked. Kids act like kids and adult act like adults. There definitely are cases where an 8 year old kid could be more mature than a grown man, there's plenty of them all over. I know many young kids that I would definitely consider being staff, but a majority act their age.

xD with the modern age, many people act very immature, all cussing, shoving, bullying, all that stuff(yes my dear language arts teacher, I said stuff and said!!!) For this subject though, I don't believe there is an appropriate age for staff. Most younger kids won't know the craziness that's going on. And of course, (yes, I started a sentence with and, big deal)many older teenagers are very immature. The link between maturity and age are mixing up. But of course, that's my opinion.

i think 16+ is a good age. this being said i am currently co-owner of a server i got past the 16+ age limit he wanted because i ended up being his plugin manager but how mature you are doesn't always depend on age you could be 12 and be mature and you can also find 20+ that aren't mature it all depends on the person

As many people in this thread say, I'd agree with their statements stating that the maturity factor is far more relevant and crucial than age.

I think 13 is okay.
But most staff I see is usually 8-11 or about 20-22.
It's very strange.

There is no age limit to mature hood, Age is really nothing, The only time you should actually worry about it is if life is on the line. You should always keep track and celebrate the next age but otherwise don't use it unless absolutely necessary. The main focus is the fact that they will
1. Actually Moderate the server and actually get on regular basis
2 Are mature and treat fellow members and staff with the respect
If they grief you so what? Shouldve got Core-Protect Plugin xD

Please stop this "age" posting, Age is age.

getting tired of "age" being discussed, not that i can help it or anything.

it's all about maturity, not age.

and you should know a person before you promote them in the first place. you can't just give people special permissions willy-nily.

your server is like your child. you have to take care of it and make sure it is in good hands. you can't go around letting people take care of the server when they aren't suitable for the job. age has nothing to do with it. just be smarter about who you pick.

that's my two cents.

The age is not the only thing that counts, there once was a 22 years old admin on my server, he was in fact as mature as a 5yo kid and I had to BAN him. Before promoting anyone, make sure they deserve it, their age doesn't matter.

It's mostly a matter of opinion, and like most of you guys have said, how mature they are. But you wouldn't see a 9 year old kid acting like a 16 year old. It also depends on what you allow and what type of server you have is. If you allow swearing then I don't think they should even be on the server, not because they'd ruin a game, but because they shouldn't be hearing that. And if you a run a major server with a bunch of complicated plugins, then the staff should at least know how to use them. But the main point is how mature they are.

Well, don't generalize because of age, just because one is older, it DOES NOT mean they are more mature. In fact, many times I find younger people more mature then 16 year olds that grief everybody and cuss when they get staff =P. If you are looking for good staff, don't be biased because of their age, interview them. It is possible that a child-prodigy two year old is way more mature then a 16 year old. The "appropriate" age would probably be from 10 up. Just a common thing though. The actual age, regarding all odd occurrences, would just be if they are 2-99 xD.

Personally, I try to judge on a per person basis, but I've come to the conclusion 16 or 18 is the absolute minimum.

Admittedly, my server allows swearing so I prefer maturity.

There is no "specific" age for staff, it all goes by maturity if the candidate is very mature he will be a much better staff member than someone immature that is always fooling around.
ParilDoesn't matter so long as they are mature and conduct themselves properly. If they ask for a position, no matter how old they are they likely aren't going to be very good.

I'm just going to disagree on your entire post,
first of all there is no age requirement, so I do not see why children
under the age of 16 should not get a staff position.
When i was Ten and playing video game's i got plenty of staff role's for servers and such.

I'm going to disagree with that. Good grammar just means you care and are educated enough to use the English language properly.

This isn't an indicator of whether this person can get along with others and fit into a leadership role well. It also isn't an indicator of if they're capable of making sound decisions.

OP, you should always get to you know staff candidates very well before they're promoted.

Just like Paril said, if they ask for a position they are not staff material, even if they are 18 or whatever. If you want good staff members pick out players that are active, kind, and are a gem in the community. I trust that from this your question is answered.
