Can't find pillagers.

I have been playing a survival world for like 2 months now and have only ever found one pillager and that was really early on.
I've been searching for them for hours now.
Does anyone know what's happening.

Outposts can spawn as new chunks generate
as for patrols, it might just be that the world is old maybe

The world was made in 1.14.4 and the nearest outpost was 4000 blocks away.
I've only ever seen one patrol in my 100+ hours gameplay time on this world.

I've noticed that they are rather bugged in 1.14.4... I have sometimes found them wandering the same place in circles, I have found them literally inside of trees, I have found them inside of caves.

I used locate to find the nearest outpost and it was 4000 block away from my base.

You looking for an outpost or just a wandering group? As both of those can only spawn in biomes that can spawn villages, for example, they can spawn in deserts, plains, and taigas, but not in jungles, swamps, or mushroom islands. I've got a hardcore world and they won't stop spawning around my base (it's this really cool generation thing where the spawn chunks is a strip of chunk errors surrounded by a giant desert).

I live in a plains and they have never once spawned.

Ah, what difficulty are you in? As I believe that the difficulty affects it (the one I am playing on is a hardcore world).

Are you playing with or without mods? I'm using vanilla+ (only addition is OptiFine) and currently I live in a savanna and have encountered 2 pillager patrols in total (over a course of 1 week of gameplay (a few hours every day)).
So they're not exactly common ;)

try staying in a village they come to raid them sometime....

How old is the world?
If the world is older than the pillage and village update then you will need to explore a part of the world you have never been to. Use /locate, but it might be thousands of blocks away

Only about 2 months old, I used locate about a month ago and it told the nearest outpost was 4000 block away.
I used the nether to get there just to fight some.
