I Dig a 5x5 shaft to bedrock, with small platforms every 10 blocks. On these platforms i make 1x2 shafts.
Big profit

I mine like this:
1: grab 3 stacks of torches, a bed, and 2 chests. (and a pickaxe ofc..)
2: Mine for a good (y<25) mine, and place your bed etc. (sleep!)
3: After mining the whole mine, i pack my stuff, and go to the next mine
4: I repeat this until i got like +/- 60 diamonds

mining is awsome using mods its very ok for me like i made my own aouto forward mod so it makes me go aouto forward THEN i got a mod that makes my screen go up and down wiith aa 20 second delay

1. Mine a 2x2 line 30 blocks long
2. Make first step clear rest of blocks repeat
3. Lose 20 pickaxes but have Diamond

Create a nice staircase going down into the Earth. Then just mine straight until I find resources. Most effective way for me.

i dig straight down till i hit a cave or bedrock and have never died from lava

1. go to layer 17
2. mine
3. fall in a cave which has lava in it
4. happy birthday a respawning bar XD

I go to layer 12 and make a tunnel 20 blocks back then i do a branch mine for every 2 blocks then go 3x2 hole back 20 blocks and bam.. DIAMOND
