You can actually play the 3rd or 4th version of Minecraft in the launcher. It's super intensive, only has 2 blocks, about a 32*32 world and the controls are swapped.

Also, if yiou want to find an old version, there should be a version changer on the launcher if you can find it. In the "launch options" in the newer launcher, if you turn on all of the switches that involve older versions, you can access super old versions like Classic Mode, where you can spam Steves to your heart's content. Have fun! :D
