Noteblocks change what instrument sound they make depending on what block is directly under them. Piano is dirt I believe. I think sand is guitar but don't quote me. Right clicking changes pitch.

How do I make sounds besides a Drum sound though?

-Place the Note Block.
-Right click it to change the high/low of the sound, left click to play the high/low of the sound it plays.
-You can also activate the sounds by using redstone then using a lever connected to the redstone or place a redstone torch or press a button, etc.

Hook them up to redstone, When it turns on it makes a noise, right click it to change the noise it makes, This can also be used for making doorbells if your experienced with redstone repeaters!!
