Optifine Versions - What's the difference?

I haven't seen this question asked on the forums so I'll go ahead and ask. I would like to know this stuff for myself and maybe this will help some others along the way.
So the question is just what the title says. Optifine has 6 versions for my 1.7.10 and numerous versions for the other MC versions.
What's the difference between these versions? Do/Can they affect gameplay on specific OS's?
My computer is OK, not the best but not pure garbage either. I'm not here to compare/argue who has the bigger d***!
Here's my setup:
Processor: AMD E-350 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.60GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB (3.60 usable)
64 bit OS, 64 bit based processor
Optifine Versions (for me & 1.7.10)
OptiFine HD Standard
OptiFine 1.7.10 HD A4
OptiFine HD Ultra
OptiFine 1.7.10 HD U B1
OptiFine 1.7.10 HD U A4
OptiFine 1.7.10 HD U A3
OptiFine 1.7.10 HD U A2
OptiFine Light
OptiFine 1.7.10 L A4
I cant remember which version I was previously using but it worked fine. Now I'm using 1.7.10 HD U A4 since that was required for shaders. I'm no longer messing with shaders and I'm wondering if this version itself is affecting my game any. Sure I could go thru and install each version to see what does what but that's time consuming. I'm looking for someone who may know the specific differences in each version to help people like me know which version is best suitable for our specific setup.

I have a 4 GB (3.89 Usable) Ram PC, my CPU is Intel Pentium. I have a Windows 7. I use Optifine HD 1.7.10 Ultra.

Just to recap on this subject: Today I tried out every version of Optifine for 1.7.10, did the exact same test for each and I'm getting best FPS with OptiFine 1.7.10 HD U A2.
I still don't know what the differences are between all the versions but A2 def showed a higher fps than the others AND it was more stable, less drop/fluctuation.

OptiFine Ultra has the most optimizations and features that can increase FPS.
OptiFine Standard is more compatible with other mods.
OptiFine Light may be more helpful for underpowered laptops and notebooks, but it does not have any advanced features and is not compatible with ModLoader and Forge.

So the difference between Ultra and Standard is simply mod compatibility? I know the Standard and the Ultra A4 have identical setting selections. Just not sure whats the differences with the A2's and others.
I guess if Light isn't compatible with forge then it can be voided from my list (for me anyways)

LOL. I'm using the Ultra A4 as well but I'm wondering if that has my computer working more than it needs to be (especially since i'm not running shaders anymore).
I'm just wondering if going back to the Standard HD would do anything different (better) or even 1 of the other "Ultras" like the A2 etc.
