So I seen there is thing in the minecraft launcher editing what version I what to play (or what ever I should call it) so right there is text that says server, if I click it it well start a download, if any one know what it does please tell me what it does.

File you have downloaded is server software to host your own server on home computer.

.jar just means that it runs with java which should be installed in your pc. Since this is the server jar it runs like an exe file. But send screenshot incase of context
