TNT sword. Nearly kills you, you only get one shot out of it, but it does 30 hearts of damage to whatever you hit.
that's an overkill, and stupid.
Orlly? It's a last-resort weapon. Good if you find yourself against a diamond-armor opponent, not against mobs. Oh, and there is no such thing as overkill. There is only not dead enough.

Glass would shatter, lapis isn't strong enough sand would fall to the ground, glowstone is like glass, netherack would catch on fire when ever it touches fire, clay sword is too soft, leather sword is basically cloth on a stick, a flint sword is a "spear" mossy stone is just a waste of rare materials, why not use stone, and endstone... You know that's actually a legit one...

Iron alloy: made by combining obsidian, coal, and iron and then smelting the mix
does same damage as diamond, more durability, but a lot less enchantability. Good for the not-quite-full enchanting room stage.

An Obsidian Sword and you need either Diamonds or emeralds to make a hilt because a normal stick couldn't support the weight of obsidian.

Reinforced quartz (iron on bottom, quartz on top because it can be pretty sharp) is what I'd like most, obsidian second, and cactus third cactus swords are the durability of wood but damage one heart more than iron because cactus.

Obsidian & Redstone, Obsidian has 100k uses, and is 10x as powerful, and redstone is the same as Iron though.... you hit stuff it glows, and it powers any block that is next to it, and when you hold it, it powers yourself.
Here's a suggestion. Not for a sword, but for better (more powerful) arrows. Basically instead of using flint, which would be the basic arrow, you could also craft iron, diamond, emerald, etc. arrows that each do separate amounts of damage. Also, instead of the crafting recipe giving you 4 arrows, it would give you a decent amount more, so it's not a big waste of diamonds.
And as for swords, I agree with samkee00 who says reinforced quartz swords. But instead of crafting it like he said, I'd like you to be able to actually make the item reinforced quartz. And I think it should be a bit more expensive. Here's how I think you would make it: One quartz (item) in the middle, iron ingots to the left, right, and bottom of it, and a diamond on top. Then you could make reinforced quartz armor, tools, and most importantly swords. They would be more powerful than diamonds by a half heart or so and have a couple hundred more durability.
ALSO to those who say some things are impractical as swords... Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but we already have diamond swords...

Emerald Obsidian Sword, 1 emerald, 1 obsidian, would make a nice one, takes iron block as a handle? So It's more rare and harder?
