I want to create Digital art. Where should I start?

I wanted to create digital art recently, because after seeing all of these stunning masterpieces other people make on PMC, I wanted to create some for myself. Where should I start? Is there a good beginning digital art program that would suit my needs? (Preferably for free)

Get the Intuos Pen ( I have the small one.. ) the small is like.. $70? It comes with ArtRage Studio and some other I forget. I love it though!
Adobe Photoshop is my best recommendation. PaintTool SAI is still a really good program, and it draws extremely detailed lines and such, but it lacks some features that Adobe Photoshop has. I know Photoshop isn't free, but there's some sites that give free Serial Keys to get it, and if you find a site that gives it, then you're in luck.

Agreed about photoshop
Also if your using an art tablet I would recommend ArtRage. Its not free but its good for art tablets
