ConquerI find it annoying they only changed the planks. They didn't make different types of wooden ladders etc.
This would just fill up the terrain.png completely, and it would be a more of a hastle to have to texture every single wooden block separately. The next problem would be is that they would also have to make mixed wood blocks if they did this.

Now that you mention it, I do agree. Slabs, steps, ladders (didn't think of the ladders before btw) and tools would be pretty nifty

Personally I've been crying for these new planks forever. I've been wanting them to do better flooring. May be just my irl profession rubbing off onto my Minecraft game though

Well, with new wood you can create more better wooden houses. You can use the different colors to break up walls, create nice effects.

Well the new wood that comes from pine trees looks good as a house.
May just be my TexturePack though.....probably would look nice in any pack/default though.
Also the new planks match the trees they come from.
