Universal electricity and the mods that come with it are good ones, Biomes o'plenty and Zan's Minimap are a must too.

I thought the 2D mod was pretty cool. You could make a series out of it.

Definitely Optifine. Best mod ever.
Optifine, TMI and Rei MiniMap are amazing. Especially when you're a server owner
Optifine, the better third person mod was amazing until it was discontinued, and GLSL shaders are pretty nice as well.
EDIT:
I only use optifine for its zoom functionality, I can run 70+ frames without it, I just like being able to spy on people.

I personally like the Dragon Block C, Derpy squid, Teamcrafted, And the zelda sword skills. these are some real fun ones you can get real creative with! Also pretty much anything skydoesminecraft i like XD
