1.3 saw emeralds come into the game, 1.4 added a new boss, anvils and a few new mobs but what great addition(s) could we see in 1.5?
Firstly one thing we could see is the fish mob, for a long time players have wanted a fish mob in the game, with fishing rods and fish existing as food it could be possible, A fish mob wouldn't take long to code, texture ect you could find them in the water and to get them as food you'd have to fish them out, get them onto land and kill them.
Rubies? a ruby texture has been seen in the items.png and with emeralds being introduced in 1.3, 1.5 could be the rubies' turn to be in the spotlight, While Mojang has said nothing of a new ore/gem they could always work on this secretly without us knowing!
A fix for lagging? Lagging is a big issue on Minecraft especially for those with slower computers, players often get annoyed when they see youtube videos of people with a smooth running minecraft while the other half of us are victims of the lag. Hopefully Mojang will make a no lag option, it would mean worse quality but at least it could stop lagging.
More mod support? No more modloader? Maybe after seeing how many mods there are out there and how many people struggle to install modloader and mods Mojang may decide to add modloader into the game and even have a mods menu on the main menu where u can open the mods folder and drag mods in (like texture packs) it seems unlikely but you never know.
Here are some things not to expect, Firstly emerald armour, tools these would ruin minecraft as they would make the longest best material second best, emerald would have to be better than diamond which would ruin the feel of minecraft, if they were less than diamond they'd be technically useless as nobody would care about them, If you want them so much then get a mod that adds them there's loads of them! Secondly there will not be many 'big' mobs 1.4.2 added about 5 of them I doubt Mojang will be making any more for a while any mob in 1.5 would be something small like a fish or a bee so that's all give ur thoughts in the comments!

i think thats a bally good idea i say! i really struggle with mods and mod loader to install

lol yeah you should have magic powers and there can be a magic wand and the spell u get depends on what you use it on, for example: water=water spell

Another thing i think mojang should add to minecraft is more weaponry like shields in the aether mod or other weapons. Maybe more mobs? Idk maybe even a mob based around Christmas like a snowman mob or a reindeer! Not the snow golem. New blocks? maybe a redstone block or coal block? possibly...
Or possibly a christmas tree based on christmas

Just guessing on what could be next makes a bunch of disappointed people. Do a little more research, then post. But I love having somewhere other than mojang to look for updates!

Minecraft is coded in java, lag is inevitable and computer individual, there is nothing mojang can do about it. Lower your quality and render distance. Boost ram for your minecraft.

-_- is all I can say about that. The only way to get rid of lag is to get a good computer or to make minecraft have even worse graphics and be 2D. Now you don't want that
And about mod support, it's called the mod api and may be coming out in 1.5.
