Bedrock's only good for Multiplayer. Java sweeps it in pretty much, if not in all, other ways. i used to play bedrock and i was sick and tired of the bugs, glitches and other nonsense.
Asking this question is like asking if PC or console is better. With PC being Java and console being bedrock, and Java is on PC, and bedrock is on console, so the answer is obvious. That's the only question you have to ask.

There are some differences between the two gameplay wise.
There are many many differences that I am not used to with Bedrock, they don't make it bad, but not good either. The lack of an fov mod is what completely cuts me off from it along with my other client side mods.
Java is better than Bedrock and RTX is only on JAVA

While I doubt the information is (or will be [legally] available), what percentage of MS/Mj 'minecraft income' is derived from merchandising [arguably edition blind] would be very interesting to known…

They both serve different functions. Bedrock is common for people who want to play cross platform, or play more simple gamemodes.
However, most people who want something more advanced, or at least to have the option for such things, will use java.
I strongly prefer java edition but bedrock is acceptable for some.

As a longtime Minecraft player who has recently got Bedrock edition as well, I'd have to go with Java.
I do like the cross-compatibility of Bedrock, and the character creator, but I don't like how heavily monetized everything is.
I also have many little gripes about the gameplay. Heads up, if you don't want to read complaining, I'd advise you don't read on.
One such issue I have is how you use the shield. You use the crouch button! It makes fighting so slow, and fighting drowned an absolute pain. Meanwhile, in Java, you can block their attacks without having to worry about drowning, since you don't share a button with crouch/sink.
And the menu. Good lord, I hate the menu. Or the lack of pausing. But back to the menu - Java has a hell lot more options & such. Some might find this annoying, but I find it pretty good. And you can't scale the UI, menu included, for Bedrock edition. I don't like how big it is. To be fair, I'm pretty sure the menu is built like it is because it has to be cross-compatible with the console versions, but it just looks so ugly.

as a bedrock player who uses a controller, i just wanna say that i also hate the ui. it's built primarily for touch screens which makes it very not controller friendly (for the most part) and also extraordinarily ugly (mostly).
that being said, there absolutely is an option to scale down its size. settings > video > gui scale modifier.

And yeah, I see what you mean about it being made for touch screens. I've played a bit on my Switch and now you mention it, the clunky buttons do seem like they'd work well for that. Even if they do look ugly as hell.

yeah. what's worse is that there's already an alternate ui design made even more for touch, which is enabled by default on mobile! which somehow looks even uglier! and what's worse than that, is it didn't always look as bad as it does now. i like bedrock, but the better together update hit the ui Hard and it never recovered :(
bedrock does let you change most of the ui with a resource pack, which is really nice, but unfortunately that's just not very easy on console :(:(

because I learned the original as it evolved and staying with it avoids having to relearn all the bits where MS/Mj had to compromise parity to get BR to run on other platforms [or just didn't {or couldn't} fix the bugs].
Further, my preferred playstyle [which I'd call tech-lite] makes considerable use of various specific bits of the rules; where BR does things non-canonically, builds etc based on the java original fail get griefed.

Java is easier to mod and for me easier to play in general I love modding games especially Minecraft
Modded Minecraft is really all I play. To me Minecraft has gotten stale with it's gameplay

bedrock is more accessible. but it doesnt mean its better. try finding actually good mods addons, for bedrock.
