Hey guys, I took a long break from minecraft, about a 5 year break, but I’m back. I recently had the idea of setting up a server, (faction server) the only problem is that so much has changed, I was wondering if some of you guys are willing to give me kind of a crash course or a bit of a hint as to some of the important things I should know, the last update I played I think was 1.8 (I’m not exactly sure). Hey guys thanks for all the responses, really helpful. I guess I am really just looking for any changes that may sway the way a server is run, if that makes sense? Had a lot of experience before with being an admin/mod and what not just wanted to know if there’s anything I should be aware of. Cheers again

There's way too much to sum it all up. From crazy blocks like glazed terracotta (blocks which have patterns on them) right down to concrete and illager mobs :)
If you want to get a good overview then I suggest you use the Minecraft wiki, Here is the page about Minecraft 1.8, just click the arrow at the bottom of the overview box on the right to move to the next version.

Do not express your opinion when someone asks you what has changed, you should list the changes from an unbiased position (unless they ask for your thoughts on it), otherwise, your dislike or like for features should not be expressed.

All he's saying is that what you're doing is not a good way of listing changes. Hardly 'thought police', mr/ms dramaqueen

Yeah I’ve had a look around on creative and what not but really just wanted to make sure there isn’t anything I’m missing, cheers

Long story short, swords work differently and there's fish now. Also tridents are a thing so that people can reenact their Triton fantasies.
