No idea if this is possibe or not, but it would be very cool
Hello, I myself am not a MC modder, however when I go through lists off mods, almost 60% of them are for 1.7.10, and I rarely see any that are 1.8 despite it being the current version of MC.
I doubt this is possible, but would it be possible to create a mod that acts as a bridge for 1.7.10 mods to work on 1.8?
(I don't know java, but this would be extremely helpful.)

As mentioned above by snazzyjava, it can be done, but it would just create more problems than it'd solve. For now, just stick to using 1.7 mods.

This could potentially be possible, but it would require completely rewriting the client, using the 1.8 modding API as its resource library.
In other words, sure it could be done, but the amount of effort required would be cost-prohibitive. Besides, by the time it would be complete, Minecraft would likely be several major revisions ahead, requiring further rewrites to the mod.
