Ok, so, first off, I didn't know if this was the section to post this, but it seemed to fit my needs. Anyway, about this program...
My friend's java broke a long time ago. He doesn't like re-installing windows (who does?), and he kept getting "Launch4j" errors every time he'd start up minecraft. So, I got him a portable minecraft launcher; holds its own AppData folder, and it's own Java installation, so he could play again.
And then, the new launcher came out.
So, for the longest time, we had played on old, 1.5.2, outdated servers, because we couldn't get the new updates. So then, today, I got an error trying to get on out private server. "Can't connect to minecraft.net", I kept getting, over and over, and he was getting it too. So I tried to log in on the new client, and it worked. I had decided that they had shut off use of the old clients, or something, and decided it was time to update, anyway.
But, to my dismay, no portable minecraft programs were to be found. So I figured, I'd give it a shot. I had barely any experience in programming (but more than most people) so I tried it. And withing 10 minutes, I was up and running. I cleaned up the code a bit, am posting it now, and as far as I know, this is the FIRST minecraft portable with full singleplayer AND multiplayer, and is perfectly legal (because it doesn't use a cracked minecraft client)
If you're wondering, at this point, what I mean by "Minecraft Portable", Basically, it keeps its executable, its save files, and it's java installation, all in one little folder. This means, you can put it on a flash drive (hence the "Portable" part), and it will have the same save files on any computer, and doesn't even require the host computer to have java installed! I did this with a simple batch file (less than 4 lines long, and 2 of them are just turning off the prompt, and showing who made the program) to open up the linux version of the new launcher, and require it to put it's appdata in a folder near it, and run it from a different java installation. It's auto-updating, just like the normal one, because it IS the same one, just running from different directories.
Anyway, I think I've been rambling long enough. Here's the link for you. Simply extract the files to a folder and run "start.bat" (or, it could also say it's just "start")
CH3DD4R's Portable Minecraft v1.0b (95.97 MB)
(In case you're wondering, CH3DD4R is my newer username, and Krayzi99 is my old one.)
And this isn't the final release, either; If you find something wrong, or have an idea, just let me know, and let the updates roll!

Hmm... I'm afraid I have no idea what's going on. I'll look into it, and if I find anything, I'll get back to you. If you could send me a log after you click play and it opens up the launcher again, that might help. Simply right click on the CMD window (white text on a black background, it's the window that says it's my launcher at startup) and click Select All. then cop and paste (hold CTRL and press C) and then paste it here, maybe in a spoiler. That would help a lot.
I have this,it loads the launcher then i click pay and it just loads then the launcher pops up again instead of the game
This is amazing, I was having trouble with this too!
cool to find this, i would probably put it under mods
