What's a good program for making texture packs?
Hey! This is my first post and my second day with an account so I have a question.
What's a good texture pack creator?
1. Keep in mind that I run on a Mac so make sure whatever it is can be compatible with Mac OSX
2. Make sure it is a program and not a website because I don't want to have to rely on the internet for all my stuff to save and to access/edit.
3. Make sure it has a simple interface so I can just plain understand what's going on.
Thanks for helping me if you can suggest any programs!

Guys, I got GIMP working. I also wanted to say Krita is Windows and Linux only

Also if you want to try to get GIMP working, it would probably be useful to know more exactly what it's doing--how far does it get before it crashes? Does it give any sort of error message?
(I dunno how much I could help after that though since I'm not a Mac user)

I would definitely advise GIMP

The pencil tool is best for pixel art, it locks to a pixel grid

ResourcePack Workbench does require a separate image editor though, so you should probably solve that first.

Isn't Paint.NET Windows-only?
If you haven't already, it might be worth trying Krita (which was mentioned earlier), though I think it's intended more for painting than for pixel art, so if you're trying to do the latter it might take some work to make it do that.

If I remember correctly, I think Krita has the option to enable a pixel grid (By default you can see it just by zooming in far enough) so I second this. Also almost any image editor can be used for pixel art provided it allows brushes with no antialiasing.

The name's a little confusing haha. I think this is the official site.
http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
I mostly used paint.net way in the past before I switched to GIMP, but still it's a really solid program, and supports everything you'd need to start making textures for minecraft.
I think the interface is fairly easy to figure out? But if not there should be a helpfile included.

Guys! Remember I'm running on Mac!

Try Krita. It's capable of more than GIMP, and it's just as free.

Paint.net FTW!!
And never use paint.
(Also, I hate Gimp for no other reason than I hate it)

come on, up your game. Photoshop

Paint.net and then conversion of transparency with gimp (for mac)
Paint is easier for starting, I actually used Procreate for iOS to create a wonderful texture pack, but it doesn't support transparency either.

I use Paint.net it works well enough for me.

Gimp. It's also possible to create a custom model in techne, and then plug it into mcskin3d (which would allow you to preview the looping pattern). If you're willing to spend a bit, Aseprite has the ability to preview looping patterns. Gimp overall is the best for it's price tho. It's basically free photoshop.

I tried Gimp but whenever I load it up it just crashes. One of my friends suggested that to me too, but like I said it just doesn't work! Thanks for the suggestion, though. Now that we're on the topic of Gimp can anyone find out what is wrong and help me fix it?

Gimp, by far the best free one. not sure if it's on mac, but it's on windows and linux

Also if you could help me with making posts so that mine will look better in the future that would be nice!
