Hello there fellow Minecrafters,
I'm KingVinol and I'm from the Aegeon City RP Server.
We're working on a City Server that's going to reflect real life as well as possible.
Here's some more information about the server:
What we’re hoping to create is one of the most realistic modern Minecraft servers to date. In a brief sentence, it should allow you to: live an entire life in Minecraft, doing everything you would normally do in real life. We already have a team of people working on builds, and custom terrain being painted by our World Painter.
The server will try to replicate the real world as much as possible, from the moment you spawn in, you use the server’s custom resource pack, which changes the items found in normal Minecraft to items found in the real world. You spawn in an airport, and go through airport security manned by real players, who earn an in-game salary by doing that. Street signs and directions from strangers will be the only way you can find the job office, located close to the centre of the city. There you apply in-game to work at various establishments, the owners coming to interview applicants when they receive the applications via mail. Many players will be homeless for the first night, most will find shelter in buildings owned by charity, and some will have to brave the streets.
However, at night, the streets are occupied by players looking for trouble. They may be petty thieves or full-fledged gangsters. Either way, the homeless players are easy targets. Many will have to hide throughout the night to stay alive, since the police only patrol the richest districts after dark. The players who survive the night may find that they have a job by morning. They turn up, put on their uniform, and start work. They could be anything from chefs to soldiers. Few will be miners, lumberjacks, or farmers. Technology has made it so many things are automated, and only a few are needed for jobs like that. The hired players sign job contracts, which are legally binding on the server. If broken, you can be taken to court. Business owners can hire players for below minimum wage, but they won’t be able to do this via the job office. And will receive a hefty jail sentence if caught.
Jail is another part of the server that is almost separate. If a player is caught breaking the law, they will be put on trial and/or escorted to jail. In jail any sort of crime is barely regulated by the guards (who are normal players, paid a wage to work there in-game). Law-breaking players have to learn to survive in a harsh environment, where they might starve to death if they don’t steal food from others.
Players can then switch jobs when their contract ends, or renew their contract. Many players will receive promotions, some will move out of the city, and retire in the countryside. A custom plugin will allow players to earn fame. The more famous you are, the more money you get paid every day. Every player will have one vote a day, they vote for a player, and that players fame increases. Participating in server competitions or owning a successful business will allow more people to notice you. Every player that joins the server has an equal chance. Some may never make it out of the slums, and may resort to drug dealing for cash. Others will own businesses in the city, and every major town. It all depends on how well you cope when working.
A huge feature we hope to implement is realistic deaths. We will need a custom plugin, but it will be worth it. This feature will be game changing. Players will now actually start again when they die. When you respawn, you’re living an entirely different life. Everything you owned will be reclaimed and you will choose a new job. Some players will find this incredibly frustrating, but it will also make crime seem a lot more risky.

STARTING OUT
Business is wonderful, but only if you have the time, money, and the ideas. There are three ways you could start a business.
1: Start a generic business, like a grocery store.
2: Copyright your invention and earn the big bucks by monopolising a market.
3: Buy into an existing franchise.
All three have the potential to make you money. I will now explain all of them for those who know nothing about business.
1: This is the least expensive option. But beware, since many other people will be heading into this market, you need to find a 'niche'. A niche being a section of the market where the customers needs are not being satisfied. For example: many companies provide sugar at an expensive price for a stack. This is due to wages on sugar farms being high right now. You can move your sugar production farm into a VERY poor area and pay the workers barely anything for making the sugar for you. You've successfully found your niche, and you're now a rich bitch.
2: Say you're invented a redstone device that automated farming and is ten times more efficient than a paid worker. Pretty sweet huh? Well, for a price you can copyright your machine, meaning the government will prosecute anyone who copies your machine without your permission. In this type of business, you can sell franchises. People pay to buy your company name and learn the trade secrets, and pay you a cut of their profit.
3: Existing businesses are well trusted by the people. Buying their logo makes you automatically trustworthy. This is a safe option for the beginner entrepreneur. They will teach you trade secrets for a small cut of your profit (around 5-15%). Remember that to open a second shop under the company name, you must buy another franchise. They'll most likely do you a deal on multiple purchases however.
CHOOSING LOCATIONS
You have to first consider your target market. Are you selling cheap groceries to the masses? Or fast cars to the rich and famous? Your fancy restaurant shouldn't be located in the slums, and your unlicensed gun shop shouldn't be located on the main high street. Consider how deliveries are going to get to your shop, the rent, how much floor space you need for displays etc...
STAFFING
Some businesses are run from warehouses and factories, requiring no staff/customer interaction. That means you can have many low paid workers and a secretary, and you'll be covered. That fancy restaurant needs some serious staffing though. From professional chefs to waiters, you have to pay a premium for mature and professional staff. That means as the owner, you'll want to personally interview the people you'll be paying large sums of money to. The low paid workers you can just fire if they don't meet your demands. There are plenty of people in need of an easy job because they lack qualifications.
ACCOUNTING
Now you've bought your franchise or whatever, you need to pay attention to your monthly expenditures. Let's look at a simple example:
Rent: 100
Staff: 200
Franchise deduction: 10%
Earnings: 500
So you got 500 that month. 300 goes to staff/landlord. 200 is left. 20 of that goes to the franchise owner. 180 is profit. Business tax in the city is 2%. 2% of 180 is 3.6. 176.4 is the amount of money you have made! Now time to calculate how much you need to spending upgrading the business/buying new stock/hiring new staff... But that all depends on the business you run. Just remember that the 176.4 is pure profit, and must be used to keep the business in profit next month.
I know it's alot to do and we do not expect you to give up your social life for this project, but we would really love to have a plugin like this that could potentially save our server from not continuing.
