Hello there fellow Minecrafters,

What we’re hoping to create is one of the most realistic modern Minecraft servers to date. In a brief sentence, it should allow you to: live an entire life in Minecraft, doing everything you would normally do in real life. We already have a team of people working on builds, and custom terrain being painted by our World Painter.

The server will try to replicate the real world as much as possible, from the moment you spawn in, you use the server’s custom resource pack, which changes the items found in normal Minecraft to items found in the real world. You spawn in an airport, and go through airport security manned by real players, who earn an in-game salary by doing that. Street signs and directions from strangers will be the only way you can find the job office, located close to the centre of the city. There you apply in-game to work at various establishments, the owners coming to interview applicants when they receive the applications via mail. Many players will be homeless for the first night, most will find shelter in buildings owned by charity, and some will have to brave the streets.

However, at night, the streets are occupied by players looking for trouble. They may be petty thieves or full-fledged gangsters. Either way, the homeless players are easy targets. Many will have to hide throughout the night to stay alive, since the police only patrol the richest districts after dark. The players who survive the night may find that they have a job by morning. They turn up, put on their uniform, and start work. They could be anything from chefs to soldiers. Few will be miners, lumberjacks, or farmers. Technology has made it so many things are automated, and only a few are needed for jobs like that. The hired players sign job contracts, which are legally binding on the server. If broken, you can be taken to court. Business owners can hire players for below minimum wage, but they won’t be able to do this via the job office. And will receive a hefty jail sentence if caught.

Jail is another part of the server that is almost separate. If a player is caught breaking the law, they will be put on trial and/or escorted to jail. In jail any sort of crime is barely regulated by the guards (who are normal players, paid a wage to work there in-game). Law-breaking players have to learn to survive in a harsh environment, where they might starve to death if they don’t steal food from others.

Players can then switch jobs when their contract ends, or renew their contract. Many players will receive promotions, some will move out of the city, and retire in the countryside. A custom plugin will allow players to earn fame. The more famous you are, the more money you get paid every day. Every player will have one vote a day, they vote for a player, and that players fame increases. Participating in server competitions or owning a successful business will allow more people to notice you. Every player that joins the server has an equal chance. Some may never make it out of the slums, and may resort to drug dealing for cash. Others will own businesses in the city, and every major town. It all depends on how well you cope when working.

A huge feature we hope to implement is realistic deaths. We will need a custom plugin, but it will be worth it. This feature will be game changing. Players will now actually start again when they die. When you respawn, you’re living an entirely different life. Everything you owned will be reclaimed and you will choose a new job. Some players will find this incredibly frustrating, but it will also make crime seem a lot more risky.
