THE STORY!
Not finalized, it is still being worked on. But the premise will remain the same.

941, Elysium, The young shimmering capital of the lands, and home of technology. Far from the lands of dwarves, elves, and other magical races. It was built in 937, four years ago. It was created under the agreement to further technology. The founders designated three council members to oversee the prosperity of the city.
But now, we are in a peaceful time, without guns or cannons. Instead, we have locomotives and dirigibles.
Powered by a dwarven creation that gathers mana...it acts commonly as a fuel for such high-tech. But it came at a cost! Mages who relied on mana were weakened, and after a while, they've become rare.

Despite the burst of technology, it is fairly rare to see outside of the city. The land is still stuck in the 'dark' ages, which makes the floating city a popular place to move to. There has been also an increase of beasts and monsters, lately, causing many towns to flee to the 'safe haven'. While other retreat from the mobs, other go to the city in search of knowledge.

The Mages' guild, once full of wizards, is now about trying to restore magic to the people, while keeping Technology. There are few actual mages in the guild, as most mages by now have either lost their power or stay at home. It is also known for researching new technology and just scholars in general. They are highly respected.

0 – 300 – During “The Age of Darkness and the Era of Enlightenment” the world was recovering from a war that was not very well known or recorded. This war plunged the world in a state of darkness, a world without written records. In 234, the “Era of Enlightenment” began and history was being recorded again. Scholars and scribes began to become popular and research and development began to form. Much of previous history was lost and forgotten. Elves were unable to remember much before the year 0 despite their age. Their numbers were quite weak and their main focus was repopulation. As for humans, it was around this time that they actually began to become more influential with other races and develop a less nomadic society. The dwarves however remain quite less open and most of their history was lost due to the lack of interest in recording anything at all. Only a few dwarves became involved in record keeping. 2 strong kingdoms rose up by the end of this age.
301 – 450 At the dawning of the Age of Magic, scholars and researchers began their research into a new concept known as Mana. Mana could be harvested into a person’s body and used to create miracles such as the manipulation of fire, water, wind, earth or lightning as well as having the ability to strengthen, weaken and amplify certain things such as senses, tools and clothes. By the end of the age of magic, most scholars and researchers had some form of magic that they could use, however, most people were unable to cast magic due to inability or lack of training that was needed for it. At the end of the century, a new kingdom began that was bent on progressing magic and mana. The elves progressed in magic the most and had the highest affinity towards it, while the dwarves had a very low affinity with mana and were unable to cast spells.

451 – 723 – By 451, the Age of Magic had become the Age of Mythology and Magic. The reason for this is when certain beings came into the world possessing enormous amounts of mana and were able to perform feats of magic that only people dreamed of. These people went by many names, some were even worshipped as gods or demons at this time. It was at this time that the War of the Heroes began. Due to a lust for power, each Kingdom sent out armies to conquer the other. The results were disastrous. Some “heroes” chose sides in the war, some chose to stay out. Those that stayed out became hunted and were attacked for refusal to fight. However, an unfortunate side effect happened at the death of these beings. Some towns and cities that faced the death of one of these beings also faced a dire consequence. These beings contained so much mana that the destruction of their body caused an explosion of mana. The result were destroyed towns or rather the people inside suffocated from mana poisoning. Above all the destruction that the world faced, The Kingdom of Magic was the one that suffered the most.

724 – 900 – The war of the kingdoms did not end. A rebellion occurred in which most kingdoms fell during this time. The rebellion did not solve the problem. Though the kingdoms fell, the races were not too pleased with each other. As a result the races separated and stuck with their own kin. Leaders of the races were a bit more understanding and still insisted on trying to keep trade with other races going. Peace slowly returned slowly. However, some places, especially in the Kingdom of Magic could not be entered due to the powerful mana poisoning that lingered there. Some of the magicians and scholars from the Kingdom of Magic stuck together. As a result they made the mage guild, a group that pursued the same ideals as the kingdom of magic did. They said some of the “heroes” had gone into hiding and made incredible places filled with artifacts and items that only people could dream of. They called these places dungeons.

901 – 940 - The beginning of the Age of Discovery. The Mage guild with the help of every race was able to create mini machines that ran on magic. These machines could perform tasks or just be entertainment for others. As a result, technology seem to flourish from that discovery. Dwarven researchers were able to create a machine that could gather mana from the air and convert it into energy that could power unbelievable machines that people had never seen before. However, this machine came at a cost! Mages who relied on mana storage and people with mana in general were weakened and after a while, it was rare to even see a mage with mana. As a result the mage guild lost members and lost many famed mages. The Mage guild is now a shadow of its former self and its mission now is to try and restore magic to not only the mages but to people in general while keeping the current technology. Most of the mage guild cannot use magic at all and they are seen more as scholars and researchers. They are highly respected despite their problems.

RULES!
1) No Meta gaming & Power gaming.
Meta gaming is the act of using info gotten out of character, in character. Power gaming can be a lot of things, like doing unrealistic attacks - or being over powered - or not letting the others have a chance!

2) Keep it PG 13!
This is a serious thing. Cybering or excessive gore is NOT allowed. A good rule of thumb is: Anything below the neck, and you should do a time skip. There will also be NO rape, it is a bannable offense.

3) When OOC, be respectful.
Use your mind for this one. This means no OOC-racism, or RAPE jokes. This includes listening to the staff.

4) Do not grief.
RP greifing in the wilds is fine, but this is usually limited to things such as door or windows. Stealing realistically in the wilds is allowed as well, this means a gem or two - not an entire anvil! In protected areas, stealing is not advised.

5) Death rules:
PVP is not allowed unless it is agreed for both parties. Also, you must have permission if you wish to kill someone's character off! Common sense, people!

6) Character rules:
Characters should not be imitations of someone from a series. No Batman. They are original characters for a reason!

Please take the lore into consideration! There are no demons, or aliens!

Also, ANY UN-APPROVED USE OF MAGIC, is a BANNABLE offense!

RACES!

Elysium is a non-discriminating place, accepting all with open arms.

Humans : :
The majority of the land. Compared to the rest, they have a short lifespan, but also because of this, they are the most common people. They are a well rounded group, leaving their futures bright and full of hope. They are the most diverse, coming in all sorts of appearances. Some who are in love with the magical arts train all their whole lives without being able to pull a bunny out of a hat. They used to be capable of having magic, but it is now far too rare.

Halflings : :
Little people that look like humans but have the size of a dwarf! They are best known for being quick of their feet and stealthy. They are either very adventurous people, or countrymen who prefer their farms. But stereotypes aren't good! Like with their height, they share their lack of magic with Dwarves. Because of this, some suggest that halflings were created from Humans and Dwarves mixed together!

Dwarves : :
Little, bearded people. Usually found in their generic mountain kingdoms, or the mines underneath. They are credited for the birth of the Mana Harvesters, which helped to the boost in technology. Lacking magic of their own, they say it's what created the harvesters in the first place. There are many reasons for them to be at the city though!

Elves : :
Long-eared, tall, long lived people who usually stay in their forest homes. Elves back home are usually selfish, only caring for their own race, but they managed to always avoid wars. On a whole they disapprove of the tech, but those who do, usually leave home for the city. Elves are not known to die of old-age. Elf children are a rare sight, especially since they grow up at a normal rate, like Humans. After they hit young-adulthood their aging process stop, and for the most part, they remain youthful. They are a minority in Elysium, and the ones who are there embrace their magic more then nature. Their looks usually depend on where they come from, and they are known to dye their hair.

Lizardfolk : :
The lizardfolk are large, scaly, primitive brutes, however, the smarter ones normally take up alchemy and are frailer. What they lack in intelligence they make up for in great strength, however, this normally results in them being feared. In society they are often looked down upon, being treated like trash, and forced to live in the Elysium slums, unable to grasp the luxury above them. If they are not in the slums they typically live in marshes, trudging through the thick water with ease. Their primitive towns often become subject to conquest by humans, mainly because they lack the wits to combat their new devices, which leaves them with distaste for mankind. When it comes to fighting, they have remarkable balance, the strength of an ox, natural scaled armor, and are a force to be reckoned with when they enter water, but, they are easily fooled.

Mages are rare in these lands, the few that stick around the Mana-Barren lands are usually in the Mages' guild. They say that it takes a human's lifetime to become a mage, which is why most of them are elves. While there are a few, special, gifted people - it's not common.

Most mages' carry around accessories used as a mana-storage. A good example is a staff.

RP Experience: I have been roleplaying for a good amount of my time in Minecraft, and even some time before. I have been wanting to find a good steampunk server to try out a new character in, but I just haven't been able to find the right one.

Anything else you want to note?: I haven't been banned from any servers EVER, and I hope to keep it that way. I have read the rules, and will abide by them.

--- In Character:

Name: Christopher Thatcher

Age: 27

Race: Human ((living as a nomad from a fallen city, near Elysium))

Gender: Mail

Biography: Christopher, AKA The Whaler, is a rather notorious assassin, especially among the nobility of the land. Little does the public know that these assassinations were systematic: he's a bit of a "Robin Hood"-style character, who murders the rich and corrupt and gives to his/her victims. Of course, he doesn't kill everyone in his way: if you happen to be blocking him from his target, he will attempt to deal with you non-lethally, or he will bypass you altogether.
Christopher's last home was destroyed in a monster siege, and so he has been using his skills to travel to Elysium, the last safe place he knows of.
When he arrives in Elysium, he wakes up to find that all of his belongings have been mysteriously stolen. Slightly annoyed, he makes his way into the city with hopes of finding a safe haven there...

Appearance: Christopher often wears one of two outfits, depending on the occasion:
When he is out on a contract, he will wear his signature whaler's costume, with a gasmask, which would be normally used to protect from the fumes of harvesting whale oil in his homeland, to hide his identity instead. When walking about the town normally, he wears nice clothes that would befit a man of the times.
