we start at the Cambrian Explosion

this is the beginning of trading and bartering. fast forward by a couple million years: humans have now formed a primitive society and trade tools and more cool rocks with each other.

one day, caveman grog finds a boar and kills it
caveman grig comes over and offers a bigger boar
the trade happens and grog walks home happily not knowing that his new boar actually had less meat and was simply filled up with air to look big
this is considered the first trading scandal

over the course of several thousand years, civilization has advanced. there are now shiny round pieces of metal that have seemingly replaced trading. is this the first form of currency?

bigger/smaller shiny pieces of metal have been made. they all have different values. strangely, the 10 one is smaller than the 5 one. this was a mistake that literally nobody has ever bothered to fix.

the shiny pieces of metal now have a companion: green cloth with people on them.
