Lizze is the most popular girl at her school. She still has no idea why she agreed to be swept up in all this magic and adventure and sword-fighting. She's twelve years old.

Yael is an aspiring healer from the Spirit Woods. He hates violence and has a knack for sneaking around and getting into places he shouldn't be. He's 12 years old.

Platy is the main character. In school, he was always book-smart, invisible. His life was turned upside-down when he discovered he was actually the Son of Light, a hero destined to restore order to the Kingdom of Light. He's 12 years old.

Almost nothing is known of Darkness, the force that overcame the King of Light ten years ago. His motives and origin are unknown, and the only thing that can be said for sure about him is that he wants the Son of Light dead. His age is unknown.

Nimue, Daughter of Darkness, is the loyal guardian and soldier of Darkness. She hates Platy and his friends with a passion and would kill them without a second thought. She's 14.
