Problems with skins

I uploaded a skin and it wouldn't make a preview i.e. front,back and both sides view of how the skin looks. Then I clicked on the link "set this as your skin". The new tab opened up saying was I sure I wanted to change my skin then I clicked OK and it said
Failed to save skin:Java.lang.NullPointerException
What is happening? Please help someone!

I've been having the same issue, I'm trying to work out exactly what is going on. It seems to happen only to skins I've made with photoshop, and directly relates to when I use shading filters or layered images before uploading the skin.
From what I've heard, it's a somewhat common issue, and some of the admins are looking into it. In the mean time, you can still upload the skin directly via minecraft.net's profile page.
