So... I downloaded the Official PMC Contest Project map, and I tried to just stick it into my "Saves" folder as I would a texturepack. I put it in there, open Minecraft, and there's no map. Help please?

Once you "extract" the .zip file, a folder with the same name as the original download should be in the same location as the .zip. Open up the folder, and you should find another folder (this is the world!). Copy THAT folder into your saves folder and it should open up just fine!

XD I'm sorry for not being good with computers.. all the terms just get jumbled around in my head. Probably another stupid question, but here it goes: What would it look like after I extract it - So I know I did it right. xP

You put it in the saves folder...

Did you put the .Zip file in, or look into the .Zip file and get the file save from there, because if you just put the .Zip in it won't work.

Did you extract it? World saves are typically packed as a .zip file and you will need to extract the files inside
