and by once, well I got a lot of criticism and stuff from friends of mine and they sort made me better at minecraft when it comes to building and redstone etc.

How come your a level 1 and your a Moderator?

Hax, magic and other various illegitimate methods.
Level doesn't contribute to wether you'd be a good moderator or not, although it is often linked. Being active, mature, etc gives you a chance of being a moderator. A "guide" is found here-
