I guess most players are already on 1.8 and perhaps no longer looking for a 1.7.3 version.
1.8 has no more real serious issues then 1.7.3 has/had. But this is my personal opinion, I'd recommend you upgrade and report any bugs you might find. Perhaps it is more interesting to update to 1.8 to have a larger group of potential users.
