It's honestly up to preference and research which version you like more. I say research because you clearly need to learn more about Java Minecraft,

Java:
-Fully customizable skins
-Datapacks and plugins (world/server specified mods)
-Updated command system
-Chat Buttons
-More server variety
-realms: more user-friendly server hosting (there is literally a "Realms" button in Java, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT)
-Sodium mod (Friend: What's your FPS at? Me: OVER 1000!!!!)
-Optifine oh, just only the most used FPS and graphics enhancer to ever exist
-emojis: you can do exclusive emojis in signs, anvil-renamed items, chat, your world name!
-username: simple usernames, and no one can take your username after you have
-text color: LITERALLY EVER COLOR THAT A COMPUTER CAN RENDER COLORED TEXT

I say Bedrock is more of the "base game" (LOL and bedrock is the base level of a world) Java is good for extra features and getting into more technical aspects of the game.

Bedrock does not always have better multiplayer features. I'm not saying any version is better, but they have very similar multiplayer.

I don't understand people who discredit different versions and say one is better than the other without looking into it. For example, Java is very good for modders because of it being very open-source. Bedrock has amazing modeling capabilities for texture packs. Java has good commands, Bedrock has special items and blocks for mapmaking. Java has good redstone capabilities due to it's quirkiness, Bedrock has exploits useful for getting ahead. Both have their weaknesses, Bedrock is highly buggy, and Java has an often toxic community.

Many argue 1.12 was a very small update for the long time it took to develop. If it survived that, it can survive worse updates.

It will probably last another ten years or so. As for the different editions, I think legacy will die out most quickly (it has already been discontinued and moved into Bedrock Edition,) Java's redstone, modding and command block creation communities will keep it up, and the sheer amount of Bedrock Edition players will keep it running.

Just stop demoting Java is what they were saying.

I have played Pocket, Bedrock/Console, Legacy, and Java. "Spaghetti Code" is really a thing to say about the significantly less buggy version. The opportunity is not lost for parity. Mojang is fairly clearing trying to improve Java and make parity using Bedrock. I say it's all just preference. If you want the base game of Minecraft, with no real extras, but with easier to access community creations, Bedrock is for you. If you want to dive deeper into Minecraft and install new, free, more abundant content, I recommend Java

The Bedrock Edition seed (Console, Windows 10, Pocket) has a stronghold extremely close to spawn that goes from 67 (surface area) to 3 (bedrock), as well as a good selection of biomes and an abandoned village.

The Java Edition seed (Linux, Mac, Windows) has multiple biomes near spawn, a village, ravine, and ruined portal, as well as a beautiful shattered savanna, and a cliff flower forest.
