It's been a little bit hasn't it? It's definitely been the longest time between Slime Variants updates, but it's for good reasons. This post is mainly about clarifying what's going on with Slime Variants and why the new update is taking so long.

It started when Mojang had announced the split of the Caves and Cliffs update into two separate updates. I had originally planned to go along with the one version update and release everything in the update all at once, but obviously this isn't happening. This has also impacted things like Optifine, which the resource pack depends on to function. Currently, there's no support for random entity textures under y=0 in the preview versions of Optifine. I had planned to add a Variant that only spawns under y=0 to the bottom of the world, but it's slowly looking like this won't be the case. The update will have to be planned around the vanilla version of 1.17 and without support for the Caves and Cliffs Preview datapack that Mojang has provided.

Another major wrench in my plans was my fault. As I was working on the pack, the development folder was deleted. I was able to recover most things, but there were a good amount of things that weren't recovered and have to be recreated. Always make backups of your projects, kids! I learned what happens if you don't the hard way.

So, TL;DR: 1.17 support for Slime Variants is coming, but it's going to be a little while longer. It will only support the vanilla 1.17 world generation. Although I'm looking into trying to add support, it's currently not planned to be in the first release of the update.

And to prove that I haven't been sitting around and doing nothing, have a development screenshot of what's coming. The model is a little buggy in the screenshot, but it's been fixed since. I'll see you all soon!

This isn't an update, but it's something I would like to share.

Pretty soon, Slime Variants is about to hit 2,000 downloads. Words cannot express how thankful I am for everyone who's downloaded the pack. Words can, however, describe how Slime Variants is made! 1,583 of them, in fact!

Once Slime Variants hits 2,000 downloads, I'll be posting a special behind-the-scenes blog post about how I make the pack as well as showing some never-before-seen stuff relating to it. Things like old textures, unused stuff, and maybe a tease at the next update at the end.

I would really appreciate if you would read it when it goes live. Hope to see you there!

It's been a while, but Slime Variants will be receiving a new update tomorrow! The new update will feature one new variant for Slimes just in time for Halloween as well as a new change to how the Cloud Slime works.

I'm sorry for the large break between updates. I've said before that I'm making updates when I feel that the pack could see some use from them, but I'd still like to apologize for it. I've mostly moved on from Slime Variants but I will be going back and updating it to add new variants and fix bugs when I think the pack could use them. For instance, I'll be updating the pack once Optifine 1.17 comes out to add support for the new version as well as to experiment with the new cave biomes! Mojang has already revealed that Copper Ore will be added, so I guess you can take this as confirmation that Ore Mimics will be getting a new Copper Mimic variant to them in the future, and that goes for potential new ores as well.

Right now I'm putting the final touches on the new update and creating the screenshot for the download page. The update adds in support for an Optifine feature that I haven't used before, so hopefully you like the way it's used. Cloud Slimes will also be made more accessible. Previously if you used a Nametag to get a Cloud Slime, it wouldn't change with the weather or time. Not the case anymore! With the way I did it, however, some Cloud Slimes will turn into a normal variant. Sorry about this if you used a Nametag on a Slime!!

    I'll see you tomorrow!

A new update will be released tomorrow for Slime Variants. The new update will include multiple new variants for Magma Cubes as well as official 1.16.2 support.

I apologize for the small, quick updates that I made while in a rush to support 1.16.2 and to fix the bugs caused by it, but from what I can tell through testing, the current preview versions of Optifine for 1.16.2 will work correctly with Slime Variants. The bug caused Magma Cube variants to not naturally spawn correctly, which is very important to have for tomorrow's update! The update again focuses on Magma Cubes. They'll be receiving two major new variants which will hopefully bring them more parity between the Slimes. That may sound a bit confusing, but you'll see what I mean tomorrow.

Some more screenshots on the download page will be updated as well. Some of them featured outdated textures or inconsistencies from the other ones, so I've fixed them for tomorrow. I don't want anyone getting a warped view of the pack!

Right now I'm just going through and bug testing what I can. Everything else is complete for the update! Check back tomorrow for the download, and I'll see you then!

When an Optifine version for 1.16.2 releases, a minor update to Slime Variants will be released. This, for now, will not include any new variants and will instead only change a few pre-existing things in the pack.

The new update will bring official 1.16.2 support to the pack, meaning Minecraft won't tell you that it's out of date. It will also replace the Honey Slime's current texture with a new one and change the Cloud Slime's naturally spawning range to y=150 or higher.

I've wanted to retexture the Honey Slime for a while. As some may know, the current texture for it comes directly from Vanilla Tweaks, which is a series of resource and data packs that changes or adds features to Minecraft while staying within the realm of the vanilla experience. While I am allowed to use textures from the team, I need to properly credit them as long as anything of theirs is in use. In Slime Variants' first release, all of the textures came from them. Eventually they were all redone by me except for the Honey Slime, which I just never got around to doing. With the new texture, Slime Variants will no longer have any Vanilla Tweaks textures within it.

Cloud Slimes will also have their spawning range increased by 30 blocks. Natural Cloud Slimes are very difficult to get, so hopefully this makes the process easier for those who want a natural one. Slimes can, surprisingly, climb ladders, so try luring a larger Slime up to y=150 and killing it in the new update when it releases. The Slimes that split from the original should become Cloud Slimes!

The update is functionally complete as of now. Unless I add anything else, everything stated above will be added as soon as Optifine 1.16.2 releases. See you then!

A new update to Slime Variants is coming out tomorrow! Right now I have everything mostly finalized, but I'm still working on smaller things like color adjustments to the new variants being added. I don't want to give it away just yet, but I will say that I've talked about it before and that it will take advantage of Optifine's ability to change textures based on weather and time. Know anything in Minecraft that changes with those two things? It will also use something old from the game that was removed in an update in Alpha.

There will only be Slime variants added in tomorrow's update. I would like to add more Magma Cube variants in, but it is a bit harder to create a texture for them that looks nice. I do have ideas but they're going to have to wait. Sorry if you were hoping there would be more in this update!

I'm also adding in the Cake Slime from my last wall post in tomorrow's update. If you want to see what that looks like, it should be below this post on my profile (I hope! Still haven't gotten used to the layout after four months of using it...). It'll be a bonus type, similar to the Source and Retro Slimes, in that you can get one only by naming a Slime "cake". I couldn't really think of a way for it to naturally spawn in, but I liked the design too much for it to be a one-off thing only used in one image in a wall post. It was the best I could come up with.

No teaser this time, but remember that tomorrow's new Slime will use something that was removed in an early Alpha update, has been talked about before, and will change based on weather and time. If you have any guesses, comment on this post. Maybe you'll get it right! See you tomorrow!

Thank you so much for 1,000 downloads on Slime Variants! I'm working on the next update for it, hopefully it'll be out soon. No ETA for you guys yet. This is just a small thing I made for the milestone, I don't know if it'll get into the update or not. Let me know if you want to see it!

It's purely a coincidence that the cake meme is popular right now (lol), I've wanted to make a cake Slime for a milestone for a while now.

If all goes well, the first 1.16 release of Slime Variants will be available tomorrow! Keep checking back on the page for when it releases.

It's been fun getting back into the groove of making updates for Slime Variants. It's certainly come a long way since it originally only being different colors for the Slime. Now, Slimes aren't the only thing receiving variants! Tomorrow's update will mostly focus on the Nether's version of the Slime: the Magma Cube. Right now, there are two major variants as well as two minor ones being added for the Magma Cube, but the Slime is also receiving one minor variant. Two texture changes have also been made.

I don't have an exact time for you of the update's release tomorrow, but just know that it will be out tomorrow. This time around, I've decided to take my time updating the resource pack. Previously I was just updating it every week to keep up momentum, but now I think I wanna take the "it's done when it's done" approach. The normal Icy Slime and both Cactus Slimes were rushed and added in a desperate attempt to make weekly updates. If it were now, I don't think they would be added in. Hopefully this improves the quality of the new additions!

I'll end this post with a teaser of the Blackstone Magma Cube's reworked texture. Previously the texture was a lower resolution compared to the other Slime textures, but this has been fixed in the new update. I hope you all enjoy the first 1.16 release!

A bit late for a new wall post, but here it is anyway. This time, I just want to share my feelings about both of my resource packs and how I'm going to handle them in the future.

There will be an update for Slime Variants tomorrow. I'm still working on it so I don't know how big of an update it'll be, we'll see. After that, Slime Variants will be going on a bit of a break. I'm slowly running out of ideas for new Slimes, and I don't want to start work on Magma Cubes until Optifine for 1.16 is released. If you have any ideas for new Slimes, leave a reply to this post and I'll think about ways to add it in. I'm sure there will be occasional updates to the pack here and there, but don't expect weekly updates like there have been for the past month or so.

Classic Edition will be the same way. I do have to figure out a way to add in the special variants from the normal pack, but it seems that the classic texture is more niche than I thought. I will update it with the other variants, but expect them to come out when they're ready.

That's all for this week. I'm sorry if you are disappointed by this news, but I hope you do look forward to future updates.

Big Guy here again for the weekly pre-update ramble. Things for the next update are shaping up rather nicely. Like I said earlier, it's not a huge update as it won't be introducing any major new variants to the pack. This week, it's more about the normal colors as well as some slight tweaks here and there to things. Slime Variants was originally just about adding in new colors, and I think I've strayed away from that a bit. There will be new variants but the update will contain additional color variants to normal Slimes.

Aside from the new colors, there are two new variants in the new update. Well, maybe only one and a half (kinda?). I won't say much on one, but it involves changing appearance based on weather. It actually provided me a way to use an old texture in the pack, so that's nice. The other is similar to the Source Slime from the Icy Update in that the only way to get it is to name a Slime something specific. It's kind of an experimental texture and really clashes with the rest of the pack, but it's there for those who like it. (It may also tie in to a spin-off of Slime Variants... stay tuned for that!)

Also included in this update are smaller things. Things like where certain Slimes spawn along with texture changes for two Slimes. One of the changed textures is the second or third time I've changed it since it got released, and I think I'm finally happy with this one. Stay tuned for Wednesday.

Like I always do, here's a teaser for the update. This is more of a blatant show-off of the majority of the content in the update, but oh well. Try and find the colors that aren't in the pack! There are six in this screenshot. If you'd like to suggest a color for me to add, add a comment to this post and I'll try to add it in before Wednesday's release. I hope you're looking forward to it.

I'm happy to report that, as long as I don't spontaneously decide to add something else (the ability to make a Slime whatever variant you wanted was only added about an hour before the release of the Tropical Update!), Wednesday's content update for Slime Variants is ready! Of course, there is always more bug testing to be done and finishing touches to be added, but everything is set into place to be uploaded. In fact, a pretty big bug regarding Slimes spawning in has been finally fixed! Stay tuned for that.

As more and more updates come out, I'd just like to say that they might not always be large updates like last week's. I do like to try out new things that Optifine has to offer, but I'm not going to add new things just to check off a list. I've passed on ideas for Slimes already since they weren't ideas that I felt were good enough to add. I wanted to add in a Cloud Slime that would only spawn at really high elevations, but I thought that nobody would really be able to get one unless they specifically built something just for Cloud Slimes or they would just name it. Eventually, the idea of a special Slime based on elevation became the Ore Mimics, but maybe I might revisit the Cloud Slime one day.

So just remember, in the future updates might not always be huge. I would say the next big one would be whenever Optifine for 1.16 gets released so I can play around with Magma Cubes. I already have a concept texture for one new type and an idea for another but I don't want to add them in just yet. I feel they wouldn't make sense without the Nether Update's new features being present alongside them.

And, as I often like to do, here's a teaser to end the message. Enjoy! :)

Progress on Wednesday's update is going well! I really hope you guys will like the new stuff being added, I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with Optifine's features.

Right now, the content of the update is just being fine tuned and tested for any potential bugs. For example, somehow a frame of the Tropical Slime was bugged and one fish in its texture wouldn't move. Turns out I never moved it after messing with its texture. It's fixed now though and there should be no problems with it once the update releases.

I'm also working on a revamp of all of the screenshots on the download page. They aren't the best and could be improved, in my opinion. Attached is the screenshot that will be replacing the current one for the Tropical Slime. A lot better than the old one, don't you think? I'd love to show more, but I don't want to spoil all of the surprises coming soon!

That's all, just wanted to give an update on how progress is going. I hope you all enjoy the screenshot and are looking forward to the update's release.

I've updated the Random Slimes pack with a brand new screenshot. I didn't want to update the actual pack, as it would bump it up on the Texture Pack page, so here it is instead.

Also, a new update to the pack is coming next week! Look closely at the new screenshot, you may find a small teaser! :-)

    See you next Wednesday!
