Some band members put only the drum and bass part of "train in vain (stand by me)" by The Clash and started grooving, then everyone else started joining in. Overall the song was written in 30 minutes and became one of their biggest songs. They also credited Joe Strummer and Mick Jones of The Clash, since they sampled their song from 1979

random song of the day: I mentioned Iggy Pop the other, he was good friends and roommates with David Bowie and also ended writing songs together for a while, this was not one of them but the album it was on Lust For Life had a lot of help from Bowie. Iggy is also a very influential artist in the kind of punk scene, but he never was very successful, without Bowie he wouldn't be as successful. This song is his biggest hit that he wrote in the Berlin metro, Bowie and Iggy went to live in Berlin for a while to get over their drug addiction

random song of the day: time for another one of the most influential artists ever, David Bowie. Bowie is known as the Chameleon of Rock, not because of his looks but because of his vast discography, he always changed styles in music and also changed his look. His eyes are also very iconic because one of his pupils is always dilated, which happened when he got in a fight for a girl. This song is one of his more successful songs being from his from successful album "Let's Dance" which in almost the whole album Stevie Ray Vaughan is the guitarist, he was really good. This song was also originally released in 1977 by his friend Iggy Pop (they both wrote it) but wasn't successful until Bowie remade it, and ended up winning the first ever Best Male Video award at the 1984 Video Music Awards

random song of the day: Blur are amazing, but Damon Albarn is even more amazing. Other than Blur he also created Gorillaz, and is generally the person behind their music, since the band isn't real. This song was Gorillaz first hit and Damon already had the music ready for it. The way he thought this tune is by clicking on one of the presets of his Omnichord, he pressed one button and it did the music and then another to pause it for the drums. I recommend checking out how he made it too lol

Random song of the day: remember Suede and how I mentioned Britpop? This song is the song that won the battle of britpop in 1995. It was basically hype by the media but here is what happened. Blur were starting to get more famous as their album Parklife in 1994 became a smash hit, but there were some new kids in the block, called Oasis who debuted and also started breaking records with their alternative album, but they also leaned towards britpop. They were also ragebaiting each other since they got to see each other in award ceremonies.
Blur challenged Oasis by putting the release date of their newest single on the same day as Oasis' single, this meant that only one song could reach number 1 in the charts. Blur's Country House reached number 1 with Roll With It by Oasis being number 2 and Blur sold more singles than Oasis. But in the end, Oasis won the war as their album "(What's the story) morning glory" ended up being praised as one of the best british albums ever

Sting wrote this song after coming back to his hotel room drunk, he thought of the riff and started pacing around while saying "walking round the room" and then wrote it the next day. The video clip was shot at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and drummer Stewart Copeland took the opportunity to drum on a Saturn V rocket.

Andrew Ridgeley was living with his parents despite becoming famous with Wham! he needed a wake up call so he left a note for his mom and wrote "wake me up up" realizing he duplicated a word he then wrote "before you go go". George Michael who pretty much was writing all of their songs liked this and turned it into the song, which became Wham's first American hit

Random song of the day: forgot to post but I said I'd post this next. Duran Duran were one of the famous 80s bands that I think were some of the first actual boy bands. They also had a rivalry (mostly the media did this) with Wham! so I'll show them next. This song specifically expresses the band's desire to become big in the USA (spoiler alert, they did), with many people thinking Rio is referring to the city in Brazil, but in reality the song later says "Rio Grande" which is a river that separates the US with Mexico

random song of the day: I saw that the famous AM Arctic Monkeys album turned 13 today, but everyone knows every song from that album so instead I will show a song from their first album that turned 20 years old in January. This song actually references a Duran Duran song called Rio, so I will probably post about the tomorrow. Arctic Monkeys are probably the most famous current rock band with them gaining fame originally from the boom of social media in the early 2000s but then going completely viral after the release of AM.

random song of the day: this song is based on a true story, and ended up become very iconic for its guitar riff. Deep Purple were in Switzerland at a casino at Montreux on December of 1971. They were there to record an album, but they first went to watch a concert by Frank Zappa, but suddenly someone in the audience fired a flare gun and the place was set on fire. After they evacuated they watched the fire nearby and they saw that smoke covering Lake Geneva, "smoke on the water". The guitar riff ended up becoming one of the most iconic and recognizable riffs, even voted in the top 3 most recognizable riffs along side Nirvana's "smells like teen spirit" and Aerosmith's "walk this way"

random song of the day: back in the 80s with the song called eighties. I normally didn't know much about Killing Joke, I heard this album which is apparently very highly rated in rateyourmusic, and this track is one of the tracks that stood out. You hear this guitar riff? Doesn't it sound familiar? Nirvana stole this riff for their song "come as you are", Killing Joke considered suing them, but they didn't because Kurt Cobain died, and after that they did end up getting along with Dave Grohl who was a huge fan of KIling Joke

random song of the day: It is time I showed one of the most influential artists in music history, the beatles. The bealtes evolved music and inspired many MANY musicians from the past and from today. Music would not be the same without them. They cover a variety of genres and sounds throughout their short discography, they were one of the first artists to create concept albums, they made a song that people call the grandfather of heavy metal (I might show it another time), and sold over 500 million records worldwide, all in the 1960s. This song is one of their most popular and is only the tip of the iceberg of the beatles
