  Look, I know that pmc “isn’t the place” or whatever, but it’s the only “social media” I have to talk about this.
  
  These Black Lives Matter protests have been happening for about a week now, but I haven’t really many people here talk about them. So I thought I’d make sure everyone gets a reminder to help.
  
  I don’t know if I’m allowed to post links, so I’ll say this: donate and/or sign petitions if you’re able—just google “places to donate black lives matter”. If not, and even if you are able, educate yourself on everything that’s going on; Black Lives Matter, white privilege, systemic racism, etc.
  
  My part of the world is books, specifically YA, so here are some books by black female authors that I recommend:
  
  

  1. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas - Starr struggles for justice after the murder of her childhood best friend at the hands of a police officer.
  2. On The Come Up by Angie Thomas - Bri follows her dream of becoming a rapper in order to save her family from homelessness.
  3. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi - Zélie finds herself with one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy, bringing back hope to her people.
  4. The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon - David challenges Natasha to an experiment: can someone fall in love in one day?
  5. A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown - “a grieving crown princess and desperate refugee find themselves on a collision course to murder each other, despite their growing attraction.”
  6. You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson - Liz runs for prom queen in order to get a scholarship, and starts to fall for her competition.
  7. A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow - sirens living in Portland have to hide their powers, but their world is rocked when a fashion icon reveals herself to be a siren, and no secrets are safe anymore.

  I get that posts like this can start controversy, but if we‘re celebrating pride month, then we should acknowledge the protests, too. I’m leaving the comments on. I hope we don’t have to fight about this, but I couldn’t just be silent, and I wanted to say something.
