    Soooo...
Recently, I found out that function macros exist...
and I've been messing with command storage a lot lately...

With those two features - which are both INSANELY useful btw, and I wish I'd known about them sooner - I think I could recreate main-series Pokémon gameplay.

    HOWEVER.
That's not my priority right now.
I'll keep it on the backburner.

    HAPPY SPOOKY MONTH!
For this Halloween, I got possessed by an evil pumpkin. As you do.

Thankfully, the pumpkin was kind enough to let me keep making this silly new puzzle map.
    Here, have a quick pic!

(glowy face was edited after the fact because I thought it'd look cool lol)

oh that's not what I meant to do

reminds me of that one time in 2012 when the sky turned pink and black
    Lokear2025-09-28 13:27:45
I mean, I guess? I was trying to add a new skybox, so this is actually a giant custom item model around the level

And as per usual, custom models in vanilla Minecraft are weird and wacky and never work the first try

    Did you remove the sky?

Whoa, look, Mojang added yet another cool feature for mapmaking with little fanfare, that's crazyyyyy

anyway I'm putting my big projects on hold to make a quick and simple puzzle map exploring the mannequins because I had a fun idea lol

Alrighty! I've got the gameplay all planned out for my next map. Now I just need to make the dang thing. It's gonna be a combination between chill farming and monster hunting - though not at the same time, of course.

Your job is to bring a brand-new selection of fruits to your small town, which has only ever seen apples, melons, and sweet berries! To do this, you must travel the wildlands surrounding the town, and slay fruit-themed beasts to get your hands on more kinds of crops. You can then return to town to plant some of your spoils, bringing even more in idly during your next hunt. Once you get a certain amount of every fruit, you beat the game!

There will be custom boss battles along the way, one for each kind of fruit. Can you best the stomping Tangeroo? What about the Potassquid that lurks in the depths?

Look out for Fruits of Labor, coming soon* to Planet Minecraft!
*Soon is relative. This map will release when finished and not a moment before. All ideas listed here are not yet final, and may be subject to change (especially the names of the bosses).

Nah, going back to Detective Looker being a Minecraft map. It's more fun for me.
That said, it's a much bigger and longer project, so it's going to be of lower priority.

I might still make a standalone fangame version later on!

Made a quick few building facades for the new map!

I'm going to focus on gameplay first, since this is original- with Detective Looker, the gameplay style was already there in the official Pokémon games, but not so here.

So, the city build itself will come last for this new (still untitled) map. I'll just make a quick mockup of the rest of the city layout for testing, probably just out of white wool or something, until the gameplay is at least solid.

This was more just to get a feel of how the city will look aesthetically. It's gonna be a fairly small town, but it'll provide plenty of room for the story to play out. Also, these two buildings are subject to change.

...yeah, I don't know why the image is coming out square. Opening it in a new tab should work.

    Lokear2025-03-25 23:07:58
Yeah, PMC image embeds have never not given me trouble.
I moved to Google Images, but that didn't even want to show up for this one, so Imgur it is.

I'll be putting future images in this Google Photos album as well, for ease of access.

Gotta say, making an original city for the map I'm working on is fun, but also difficult.
I love bringing a new place to life from the depths of my brain hole, but I am definitely not a city planner.

Good thing this city doesn't have to exist in real life!
(And to be honest, it'd suck to live there in real life. There's never-ending construction at all the city exits!)

    Bananas? Pears? Oranges?

Never heard of those. Here, we've only got apples and sweet berries.
If you want other fruits, you're gonna have to go find 'em yourself.

Melons are the fruit of evil and cannot be trusted.
I did forget melons somehow don't mind me

Strap in, this is a big one.

I'm making the decision to pivot Detective Looker into being a fangame on its own, rather than a Minecraft map. This will apply to future Pokémon fangame ideas I have as well.

Mostly, this is because there are a lot of things I want to do that I either can't do in Minecraft, or would be much more complicated than necessary.

I still do want to make Minecraft maps! It brings me so much joy to make things in this block game, but I don't know how well-suited it is to a game of the complexity and scale that I'm thinking for my Pokémon maps.

So... I'm unsure what my next thing will be on here. Whatever it will be, it's going to be smaller in scope, but I'll make sure it's something fun.

I might finish out building the Kalos region on the side as well, just because I've built a good chunk already. It won't be a full game though.

Shame this team didn't last too long. They truly were stylish (even if their style of choice was "eyesore")

At least it's not too hard to get back into their abandoned HQ, right?

(yes, I made an entire alternate outfit for my skin just for this screenshot)

    Modification to my last post:
While Detective Looker's gameplay content will mostly be based on X and Y, I will be putting in evolutions that didn't come until later generations, if the previous Pokémon was available in Kalos.

This only really matters for Scyther (Kleavor), Dunsparce (Dudunsparce), and Pawniard (Kingambit), to be honest.

There are others that got new evolutions post-XY, like Girafarig - but those are either only in the Friend Safari, or not in Kalos at all, so they are lower on the priority list than the ones in the actual Kalos Pokédex. (Plus, I need to change how the Friend Safari works anyway, since I don't have the convenience of 3DS Friend Codes.)

I do still want to add every Pokémon (through Legends: Z-A) into the map eventually, but the plan is still to only focus on the 457 that are in the region's Pokédex for launch, plus the three evolutions listed above to make 460.

    It's almost Pokémon Day!

Which means we're almost certainly getting more info about Legends: Z-A.
Since I'm also doing a thing based in the Kalos region, here's the deal:

My main story has been pretty set in stone for about a year now. I know what story I want to tell, and I'm going to keep that intact no matter what Z-A brings. This includes things even down to character names (mostly because I've grown attached to the names I've chosen lol). If there ends up being an official character named, for example, Micah, in Z-A - well, they're just gonna have to coexist with my Micah.

As for gameplay outside the main story, I'm open to bringing in a few things from the new game if it doesn't distract too much from the vision I have. New Megas, if there are any, will be included alongside the old ones. If Z-A adds major new areas to Lumiose City, I might bring those in too, especially if there's an area based on the Paris Catacombs.

At the core of Detective Looker, though, it'll still be based entirely on X and Y. This goes for story, as well as major gameplay elements such as the battle system. I am drawing inspiration from newer games, as well as even non-Pokémon games, but those are in smaller ways.

TL;DR: I'm excited for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but I'm also going to stay true to my original vision for Detective Looker, using X and Y as a base.

P.S. ...the battle animations are going to be better than X and Y though. That I do need to fix.

Just wanted to say this here-

At launch, Detective Looker will only have Pokémon from the X/Y Kalos Dex, as well as limited moves and abilities. Think of it like Dexit, except I actually have the excuse of being one person putting them all in Minecraft!

All the other Pokémon, moves, and abilities that don't make it to launch will be added in updates after the fact.

Dang, the comparison is crazy. What a difference a couple years makes, huh?

New (WIP on the rest of the city):

I should make custom biomes more often.
This was made specifically for part of Kalos, but it looks fun with normal world generation.

Might keep tweaking this and release it on its own... custom autumn forest village, perhaps?

Plopping this here because I've got a few disclaimers.

Detective Looker, my Pokémon fangame of a map, is basically my version of Pokémon Z. I started making it before the reveal of Legends: Z-A, and I'm gonna continue to make it as-is. If there's anything Z-A adds to Kalos that I feel like I should put in DL, or if it directly contradicts DL, I'll change things. I'm fairly sure I'll be safe on those fronts though, since I'm going outside Lumiose City quite a lot and making my own characters for the story I'm telling. At most, I'll have to change names of characters if Z-A takes them (and if I have to rename Fora, I'm gonna be upset.)

Detective Looker also has some dark themes, but nothing darker than in X and Y officially (cough, literal genocide), so while I am intending it for teens and older, kids can play with no issue.

I'm also not touching the Pokémon teraleak. While it's always really cool to see and take inspiration from unreleased concepts and assets, I don't want to dive into this one specifically because it exposed personal details on employees at GAMEFREAK. That's not cool.

Finally, I'm making full use of all the amazing data-driven things being added lately, as well as the really fun new blocks in the winter drop. The pale wood and resin blocksets are fantastic! Still holding out for proper green, blue, and purple stairs and slabs though - like, the wool colors, crimson wood isn't quite what I need. That being said, this won't be done until at least the next two major Minecraft updates come out, probably.

I'm also making a proper engine alongside this so that making future Pokémon-based maps will be quicker and easier, but that means Detective Looker will take a good amount of time. That's why I'm making another map at the same time, one a lot smaller in scope and not Pokémon-related. This one's gonna be fun... if you're a fan of apples. And nothing but apples. Apples. Apples.
