I think there is certainly a point. I have a Windows 8.1 laptop, which runs minecraft very well. It broke yesterday and I now have no way of contacting anyone on the server to tell them why I'm not on. My desktop (Windows 7) has a very bad "graphics card" (A chipset I believe) and can't play any minecraft above version 1.7.2. If I could get Minechat on my Windows7 computer I could at least chat on the server and tell them why I can't get on.
