It really doesn't feel like that long since I posted here, but hi again o/
- I now have 500 subscribers on YT, and have been working with much larger YT channels such as The 8-Bit Guy! - I am still composing quite a lot - I now use Linux and a more privacy-oriented browser, which unfortunately PMCSkin3D doesn't work on unfortunately :( - I have lost a lot of interest in EAS stuff - I'm now bigender and aro! (not out yet, still deciding a few things / new pronouns: he/they/it :D)
I'm still on permanent leave, but I might make and post a couple skins since I've gained more interest in skinning recently. But, due to my opinions on Mojang and their recent performance, my Minecraft account will likely be inactive/deactivated when 1.21 is released, in protest of the EULA changes.
I know that not many of you remember me, but I still hope to see yall soon!
Hi all. I know it's been quite a long while and that most of you have moved on or sinply don't care abput me anymore, and that's completely fine. I'd just like to give yall a lil life update. Here we go, this might be a long one.
- I run a YT channel with 259 subscribers where I upload my latest music, you can find it here - I have been getting offers to work on soundtracks for games (paid positions!), which is very exciting (for me at least) - My personal life, especially recently, has been rough, but I'm slowly but surely getting over it - I've mostly abaondoned Twitch and have conpletely moved over to YT (aside from watching streams on Twitch) - I've gained lots of intrest in EAS content, radios and other broadcast shannigans, and I've actually been programming stuff in my spare time a lot more often than when I was active here
I believe that being on an indefinite break from PMC was the right choice, as the extra time it gave me really helped me get my life together, meaning that I probably will take a stroll, see what I've missed, and then leave again.
If you'd like to chat, I have Discord now. (nicco1690#2556)
Alright, well y'all are probably expecting this considering how "active" I've been over the past few months, so I might as well just announce it now
I'm probably gonna be on an indefinite hiatus from this account and PMC as a whole.
This does not mean that I won't occasionally be on the site, or that I'm deleting this account or any of its content. There is also the possibility that I may return under a new account here, but I likely won't announce it at all here, you'll just have to, I don't know, find me.
What may be less obvious is the reasons why I'm going on hiatus: - More schoolwork making it harder to find time to work here. - My (severe) procrastination, making it hard as hell to get motivated to work on content. - Increasing stress from my family as well as some of the other things going on in my life. - And a few more reasons that I don't really feel comfortable getting into, especially here in a wall post.
Well, I'm back. I'm feeling a lot better now. :) I'll be probably be pretty active over March Break, however after that I can't promise anything. Oh, and happy early Pi Day.
Honestly thinking about going on break from here again since again, I have a lot more important things I need to worry about now than I did before, so I might not be online at all for a few days No I'm not quitting btw
NOTE: this is a pretty long post, and I am not a laywer, nor a legal expert, so please take what I say with a grain of salt
So there's someyhing kinda controlversial happening with a piece of software that I use which is FOSS (free and open source) and a proprietary, paid alternative piece of software.
So the developer of the proprietary one (We'll call them D) (yes I know I'm making them sound bad, I won't state the developers' nor the softwares' names, and I'm an active contributor to the FOSS one, so I'm obviously biased so you should take this post with a grain of salt) is getting angry at the FOSS software's developer (We'll call them T) because D hadn't yet published their documentation of the their file format, and T reverse engineered it to include support of the file format for their software.
D is also leaving legal threats in T's comments section, citing the fact that T had said that their software "has a clean room design" and is "not reverse engineered", even though T has since removed the text saying it wasn't reverse engineered.
The main argument that people are having with D now is that D is trying to claim that their software is on grounds to have legal action being taken against it, even though they're trying to say that D's file format (important: not the file data) is copyrightable, even though people who are on T's side are trying to explain that file formats and structures are non coprightable, citing the results of the trial SAS Institute, Inc vs World Programming Limited, in which, the ECJ (European Court of Justice) ruled that the structures of file formats are non-copyrightable material, but the contents of the files themselves are indeed copyrightable.
Now, I'm not here for the legal shennanigans, however this whole argument left me thinking: should file structures be copyrightable? And is reverse engineering legal and ethical for the documentation of file formats?
If you have an opinion/answer to the above questions, I would very much like to hear them.
I have a life update blog detailing why I've been gone scheduled for 02/21/22 @ 3:30 pm EST, please read it when it gets uploaded if you wanna know why I've been gone :)
I totally didnt forget about the group for a while
We're having an event! This means that it's pretty much the same as PMC's events in that they're not contests and there is no real competition.
What can I submit and why should I submit it? You can submit whatever you want! All of the textures/models/art will be contributed to the PAoPack (As long as I can put it in a proper, visible place in the pack).
When can I submit? The event will also be open for 3 days! This means that you can submit whatever you want, until Saturday, February 18, 2022 at midnight Eastern Standard Time.
And yes, you can submit more than one entry. You can, in fact, submit whatever you want!
Got your submission(s) ready? You can submit via PMing @Pixelgon or posting to the group's guest book.
I mean, if ur young, ur legit gonan click on it, but like have you seen a young guy actually reading these instead of only looking at the pic and "wow dis is boring"
So uh, got some bad news unfortunately I got an email today from my school board saying that I'm a possible close contact of someone who has covid They're saying I don't have to isolate, but I should monitor myself frequently for the next 5 days :l
Just realized that Vargskelethor Joel (that dude from vinesauce) still actually streams pretty often, thought that was pretty cool being as he doesn't really upload much anymore
